In reference to that question, what other stuff came with the towing package? My '81 bronco is a 300 and I have the quad shocks, but not much else that would seem to have to do with towing. Not even a trailer hitch.

I always wonderd that. Mine is kinda a strange one. I had the quad shocks, and rear wiring, but no trans cooler, or oil cooler. Does have the big rad, but thats probably part of the AC packedge.

Mine was the same when I got it... no trans cooler back when I had the E4OD and def no oil cooler. Just the wiring and quad shocks...

Must've been an oddball. I don't have the wiring harness for the trailer, don't have an oversized radiator, no transcooler (obviously, manual), no snowplow or hookup of any kind, the 300 I6, and I believe its the smaller swaybar if I remember right when I replaced the bushings. Just quad shocks. Its like someone went down the options list and said, "Aah, quad shocks, that sounds cool. Check."
Which is why I was curious.

Must be lucky! I have all of them, quad shocks, wiring, oil cooler, front/rear sway bars(removed if anyone needs some), trans cooler. Oh, and that lower rad hose that has two little bypass hoses, used to cool the eng. oil. $110.00:rockon

Now, does quad shocks really increase ride quality? or is it mearly for added support during towing?

Much to my surprise, a previous thread on the subject indicated that it made the ride worse. The argument being that newer shocks did a better job than the original ones so doubling them up was over kill. I have double shocks on mine and the ride is pretty stiff.

well here lets throw some fuel on the fire I have an 82 and an 85 and both have quad suspension the 85 is an xlt and the 82 is normal both are 4x4 and both are automatic trans, 82 is manual 4x4 hubs, the 85 is automatic, the 85 has a towing package, the 82 has no towing package, both ride the same in my driveway non moving (lol), they are the same height. So go figure on that one oh wait the 82 has a 302 v-8 5.0L and the 85 has a 351 Windsor v-8 5.8L.

I've only been in two Broncos in my life (and no F-trucks) and both had quad shocks, and always thought they were rather comfortable and handled nicely. But yes, as I was saying in that other specified thread, the original quarter century old shocks that came off of mine were oil shocks, which, brand new, are no where near as stiff as today's, which is why they probably started the option. Two of those oil shocks (new) are probably less stiff than a single of today's gas shocks.
