So, the PO must have sealed the rear axle on this bronco. The speed sensor that is supposed to be on the rear diff is kinda wound up in a ball and zip tied to the axle. The pumpkin didn't appear to have a place to mount the sensor. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Perhaps a previous owner or shop replaced the original 8.8.

From around 1985 through 1991, Ford used a transfer case mounted VSS for cruise and E4OD, if equipped, shifting. The ABS sensor was only used for RABS.
