I have an 8.8 rear differential with ABS removed from a 91 full size Bronco with new carrier bearings, pinion bearing, axle bearings, oil seals. Even filled with synthetic lube. Only driven about 20 miles after the work was completed. 3:55 ratio, non-limited slip, NO drums or brake shoes.
Thinking that the differential had some bad bearings I had all the above components replaced by a mechanic, still a vibration. So, I replaced it with an entirely different limited slip unit. Only to still have the vibration. Turns out it was a problem output shaft bearings in the transfer case. Lesson learned...what an expensive way to diagnose a problem!
It's listed at eBay. Just do a search on item # 2436281541 and you will find it.
