Hey All

troubleshooting my new 92 Bronco. First issue is the rear gate lift doesnt work. I checked the motor itself, it works. What is the next spot to look, the relay in the fuse panel? Any other habitual weak spots in the circuit? Let me know. Thanks a ton. I will share all I know/learn so ask away!

There's a Safety switch on the drivers side tailgate latch, if the Striker bushing is gone, there's a good chance it is not closing the safety switch. If that's not it, could be the main switch on the dash or a short in the wires between the dash and the tailgate. Typical spot is where the wires exit the tailgate, or behind the drivers side tail light where the connector is.

All this is covered in Steve83's Tailgate write up.

Def check the tailgate is fully closed
x2

Mine has just started acting up a little in the last couple weeks.

I can push on the gate with one hand and using the key-switch
the window will go up and down fine then.

Or it can be opened and re-slammed closed and it'll be fine until
it gets closed a little too easy again.

I figure I need to adjust something or maybe just oil something? :)

I figure it's set to be sorta-touchy on purpose, there's a fine-line
between latched and not latched in mine's case.

agreed...this write-up is the best you will find, and has taught a lot of us "bronco tailgate issue guys" what we need to do to fix our problems.

Alvin...i'm sure you know...but check the plastic bushings on your gate strikers. If they get warn down...the latch doesnt activate completely. Thats probably why if you push on it a little it works.

x2 :) But even with that it's acting up just a little bit.

Dorman/Help! number = 38424
Has 4 bushings so it's a complete set for a '83 to '96 Bronco.
(don't know the numbers for other years)
