I love it but of course there’s a small list of things to take care of, like the drivers side door not opening at all.

the cable is evidently detached from the handle. Inside handle is broken off and the classic thumb button mechanism is sticking on the outside.

therefore, door is stuck closed.

I need help with getting this door open and the side panel off to replace the necessary parts.

I only know a little as far as mechanics however I have a high learning curve so I’m doing some research and reaching out to people like you that are smarter for advice.

thank you folks

For parts,
For a YARD SEARCH on-line, I use;
Hollander Quality Replacement Parts | Find Used Auto Parts | Online Locator
A yard that uses Hollander Interchange can search other yards and have it shipped including some Canadian yards.
"...For over eighty years, Hollander has been making the best tool for fast, interchangeable part matches. The new Edition Hollander Interchange contains more interchangeable options than ever before.
The Hollander Interchange provides auto recyclers and auto collectors, rebuilders, and others with the easiest and most comprehensive solution for identifying interchangeable auto parts..." See their yard Directory @ Seller Directory | Used Auto Parts | Hollanderparts
Can select a certain part.
If a specific part isn't listed, search again for the next higher assembly, such as in this instance, Search: 1996 >Ford > Bronco > Doors > Door Handle Interior > Alternate Door Handle Interior

There is a chance that you are having trouble opening the door from the inside not because the cable is disconnected (but very well could be this) but because the metal the handle mounts to has fatigued to the point of breaking. Solo motor sports makes a reinforcement plate that rivets in place and adds structural integrity. This is a common problem with the handles breaking loose and leaving you to open the door from the outside. I bought two of these and reinforced both sides. Everyone should do this because it is just a matter of time before the factory metal will break.

I am confused it looks like the door is open. Getting the panel off with the door close is going to be a trick there is a screw on the top dash side that is buried IIRC when the door is closed
The picture is misleading. I posted the one picture of it before the door mechanism finally broke...apologies

Yo E,
I haven't found a way to remove the panel without damage. Try asking at a local body shop,

Try removing the window/door lock switch assembly. You can do this with door closed and door panel on. That will give you a little window to what's going on behind the panel and you should be able to grab the back side of door handle.

Perhaps you can take the key cylinder out of the door. That might give you a space to manually pull the door mechanism from outside. Oh wait, shit the door has to be open to get that out to.Someone who is good with a slim jim? If they can get to the latch that might be your bet.

Yo,
FYI,
Lock Cylinder, Door

Section 01-14A: Handles, Locks, Latches and Mechanisms
1996 Bronco/F-Series Workshop Manual
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
Procedure revision date: 05/18/2000
Lock Cylinder, Door

NOTE
NOTE: When a door lock cylinder (21985) is replaced, both door lock cylinders should be replaced in a set. This will eliminate carrying an extra key which will fit only one lock. If a key is to be replaced, the new key code number is stamped on a metal tag attached to the key.

Removal

  1. Roll the window up.
  1. Remove access hole cover and/or front door trim panel (23942) and pull away watershield, if equipped. Refer to Trim, Interior.
  1. Disconnect the front door latch actuating rod (22152) from the lock door latch operating lever.
  1. Slide the lock cylinder retainer away from the door lock cylinder.
  1. Remove the door lock cylinder.
Installation

  1. Follow removal procedures in reverse order.

Do not do anything dumb like cut the door panel. Remove the screws from the door panel and the window switch.

use the plastic puller for lifting the door switch panel. Use the plastic for prying against plastics. Use the metal puller for going up under the the door panel. Along each side there is door panel retainers slide the puller behind the door panel till it hits a retainer. Carefully pry the door panel away from the door shell with the puller. Continue sliding down and across to each door panel retainer. Once you have done both sides and the lower side and the panel is loose not attached to the door then move the door panel upwards and off and around from the door lock indicator from above. Slide the door panel off of the inner door handle. Carefully pull upward and then reach behind the door panel and unscrew the window switch panel with a Phillips screw driver. Door panel should be removed now.

Find the latch pull downward on the arm the inner handle rod attaches to and it should open. Lubricate the door handle, latch and the rods and cables!! Pb blaster, deep creep, lithium spray grease etc. install new door panel retainers they are cheap on ebay and clipsansfasteners.

How do you get to the screw that sits right behind the dash in the top right corner of the panel? With out removing that it will be very hard to get the panel off.

Can you unscrew and remove the dash panel? I know I'm able to on my 84'. Might allow access.
