The CD player(Sony Xplode CDX-4000X) that I recently bought from kenny is being a pain in the ass! I cant get the damn thing to stop skipping  . Its not the CD's fault(most are burnt) I tried it with burnt and store bought ones. I pulled it apart and there was alot of dust in there so I blew it out and it works a little better, but not much more. Everything else in the radio works perfect and when the CD part dosen't skip it sounds a hell of a lot better than the jensen that was in there.

mrit: your cd player is dirty/worn out...
a. try and clean it better, take it all the way apart and use a electric parts air blower can thingy
b. have a local bestbuy or circut city send it to sony to be cleaned for about 90 bucks
c. dont buy used electronics.

marauder: i beleive you need a two pronged stereo removal key. about 10 bucks at any car audio store. you need to depress both locking pins on one side of the stereo at the same time to release them. you can do it with two small allen wrenches but its a pita.

burned CD's are much more liketly to skip. what color is the read surface? the lighter the color, the easier time the CD player will have reading it. Also, some CD players are just worse than others at reading burnt CD's.

Lastly: Any sony deck except the C-90 sucks, period. We've discussed Sony at great length.

Mint: You need those U-shaped stereo removal tool. Push one in at a time and you will actually feel it "let go" of the stereo. Typically, I have found that if you get the one side LEAVE IT ALONE then work with the other side. I have noticed that in my Dad's '92 pick-up I had to really work with one side, I had a hard time getting the one side to break free.

As soon as you get the stock unit out...you'll see how the mechanism works and it will make the next time much easier!

all that I have ever used on many ford decks is the coat hanger method

Mrit, since it looks like your not skeerd to bust open a stereo..do it again and this time clean the CD lens with rubbing, alchahol (SP), or buy one of those things you play in it that cleans it...if it was that dusty the lens is prolly cruddy! :thumbup

Marauder: Pick up a set of the u shaped thingy's...Wally World sells 'em dude...:thumbup

I have also notice that older cd players (like 5 years or older) have a hard time or do not play burnt cd's at all

mine skips a lot on some CDs too. mostly burnt ones with very minor scratches. the scratches haven't been getting any worse, but the skipping has. the dude i talked to at Circuit City said that the laser may be knocked out of alignment....
