Does anyone else think smash lab is a poorly executed copy of myth busters?

From an engineering standpoint its retarded-they don't measure anything, no calculations, its pretty useless IMHO.

yea i am not that ungodly impressed with it. It's like the ******* end of engineering. "Hey lets build somethin' and then see if we can blow it up, here, hold my beer"

seems like they're trying to capture the Mythbusters crowd and not succeeding.

The Rhino liner test with the bomb on the trucks was cool until it turned into an hour long poorly planned advertisement-concrete last week made me want to cry and the carbon fiber tonight....well lets just say its a good thing their are no kittens around.

I did a lil research-the chick is an aerospace engineer-not so impressed with her educational contribution to the show.

The whole story of what they're doing, and more importantly HOW they do everything, seems to follow no certain path. I would've thought with the word "lab" in the title, there would be more science behind it. The concrete flop was a REAL bummer and probably sealed its fate for being dumb to me.

I've seen elementry school science fair projects with more "science" in them At least there you can find a defined logical path...

I was thinking the same exact thing during the aerated concrete episode. They didn't do any math to try to figure out how strong any of the materials would be. Also, it seems like they just want to screw around tearing stuff up instead of finding a way to make something work.

I stopped watching after the aerated concrete. The drove a car onto an unsupported brick of concrete, and when it broke they were surprised. It broke SIDEWAYS...it didn't sink like they were thinking it would in the real test. I knew it wasn't going to work because with a very large slab of the stuff it's far more resistant to just break in half and move over like in the small test.....

And then, after defeat, they threw the "well, since it didn't work, lets put a BUS on it! Yeah, that'll work!"

My 7 year old brother has more common sense.

I'll stick to the MB reruns..

I tried to watch the episode last night, and couldn't get thru it. When they slapped that hut together & then "proved" how weak a house built from cheap paneling was... :shrug

I agree with this. I watched it until they got to the projectiles section.

Lets see show 100 MPH affects a structure that was not ancored down to anything, and was built in 4 hours with a nailgun, and a million edges for wind to get under an rip off.


I did like the cabor fiber idea, but how hard would it have been to do the 2x3 (Interesting dimension) test with a quantifiable result. Cheap Mythbusters Knockoff that really just sucks in my opinion.

Smash Lab is a prime example why shows like this need to have professional writers or just let the engineers/scientists just be themselves. I mean holy hell can we get the "Pimp my ride" responses off of the show? Let these people be themselves explaining the physics maybe show them doing the calculations and then blow something up. I agree with Rob on this, the "lets build something with no regard to building code using the crappiest materials we can find and see if it fails." approach to everything just gets tiring. The "shed" they built last night was a huge example of this. Last I checked NOBODY uses wood laminate on the outside of their house, not even the bums in the Santa Ana riverbed do.

One other thing I hate about the show is they portray the chick as being a complete ditz. If she's smart then SHOW IT. If she can build shit then SHOW IT! As shown by Kari from MB and Jessi on Extreme 4x sexiness is amplified by resourcefulness, brains and their construction abilities. While I DO appreciate the tight shirts I can see that on just about every bimbo on the street and porn site on the net.

Ack - I cannot stand her on that show... She just doesn't seem to belong in that show and her voice drives me nuts..
