So... What *does* XLT stand for?

9696 Views 48 Replies 26 Participants Last post by  None2Slow
What does XLT stand for, and what year Broncos were XLT models? Im seeing stuff on the Net about much older Broncos being XLT and even my '89 has XLT on the side.

Ive never seen XLT used for small trucks (Bronco II/Ranger), is it safe to assume that its used only with large trucks?

TIA!

I think that it is just the trim package, for example, EB, XLT XL
My 78 says XLT...and so do the ford pickups from the 70s, that prob about where it started.
It is the better trim package. And rangers enconoline vans and all have XLT models, custoom, and XL models.
It is a type of trim "tag" or options "tag" but originaly Ford called the Mustangs and other such a GT for "grand touring" I know this to be fact from my Mustang (and other ford muscle) days...the LT in XLT is luxurey touring (who knows on the X part) Thats close to uncovering the truth, but I myself would like to know the answer to this just for shits and grins...:shrug Anyone else with input???
xtra large truck:thumbup
Found this, only after an HOUR of searching, hard to find extactly what you want now days....

thet were only made in 92 i think, someone on here has one
I think Joe's right...they were only made in 92 or 93. I have heard of them and seen one or two. They look a LOT like Blaze's rig (i.e. all black, etc)

I have seen a nite in the 87-91 body style once or twice before .
As far as the XLT thingy goes not sure but I know it's the fully trimmed out package .

Are you sure?? I was like Joe, I thought they were only made in '92...now they made nite f-150's quite a few years...
:shrug
As far as the XLT thing goes, it looks like no one knows. I mean we all know it's a options code, but no one has chimed in about abbreviation of it (other than silly shit like extra large truck...Ford was stupid enough to put the TTB in our shit but surely the we're smarter than saying hey lets call it an extra large truck
:duh )
Nite / Sport

A Buddy of mine has a 1994 Bronco NITE. It is all Black, Black Headlight Bezels, Grille, Bumpers, and no Metal on the tailgate. It has a "pink to purple" faded decal on either side. The NITE Package also came on the F-150's, from 1991-1995 as well...I have sold one at the car lot i used to work for....Another model no one has talked about is the "sport" (95-96). Either Black or Bright Red....They come with Leather interior, and a mono-paint job.....

It's not, Ford uses the interior trim package description on fullsize and compact trucks and SUVs. The XLT package has been around for a long long time. There was and still is the XLS trim package, started back in the early '80s with the Bronco II, then it was brought back in the late '90s for the Explorer and is now used as a trim package level also for the Expedition. Just like the alphabet denotes it...the XLS is right underneath the XLT in luxury style equipment.

The NITE package was an appearance package used in conjunction with XL and XLT interior trim packages. The NITE package can only be found on Broncos for the '92 model year. However the NITE package was also offered on the F-150 for the '91, '92, and '93 model years if I'm not mistaken. The key giveaway for a NITE package is the undoubtedly weird/queer (take your pick) racing stripe down the sides of all NITE packaged trucks. Example of the '92 NITE Bronco that's seen better days below.....

There's quite a few of us (me included) that have this package...it also comes in white as 1996Bronco just posted.

Like Max said the f-150 nite's we're offered quite a few years...I saw an '83 the other day (could be someone mono chromed and striped it, I don't know:shrug) but I've seen alot more f-150's than Bronco's and then only in the '92 model...:shrug

BTW, nice looking rig 1996Bronco!!:beer
When i had my Bronco II me and my friend went and asked about everyguy at the ford dealership what xlt stood for and not even the old geezers knew.

Matt -
