Going to make some tube doors, basically a rectangle that uses the stock hinge and striker. Would like to eventually make some soft doors that quickly mount to the tube door. What material is usually used for soft tops and where can I get some?

I plan on making a pickup stlye soft top out of Sunbrella (have a spot I ordered some before and they also have the clear plastic for side boat windows), but I think the doors should be made of something a little more durable (as they may be scraping against brush or even dragging over rocks occasionally). Also, what type sewing machine do you think I need to get? If I just get an older one off E-bay, would it be better quality (read sews thick stuff?? :thumbup) than newer sewing machines??

I was planning on just buying a couple duck canvas tarps from northern tool, and cutting them up into what I needed. it's spendy... but come on - who doesn't want Carhartt-style doors and top? :toothless

And watch out for the sewing machines. I've asked a few tailors, and they all told me that the machines claiming to be able to sew denim aren't strong enough for the heavy canvas I was wanting to sew. you'll want an industrial sewing machine, or a serging machine - they're, basically, the same thing

Can you get it in black?, maybe for the doors. Don't want anything that heavy for the top.
