You pretty much need a rear bumper with the tire rack built on.

Spare tire carrier
Since I have decided to hang on to the BFG mud's I went ahead and ordered an extra BFG mud and a matching Eagle wheel and they should be here next week sometime and seeing as a 35" tire wont mount on the rack on the inside, where can I find a carrier for the 78-79's or something that you have used thats maybe not OE that works good. Needs to be able to support that heavy MT tire..

I love them! Are they pricy? I don't see prices.
What i'm doing on mind is i bought a fold down carrier made for campers for like 15 bucks shipped, just made some minor changes, and i'll just make a cheap bumper out back and weld it to that. will only have like 50 Bucks into it.

It really isnt too bad of a price, but it dosent seem like you get much of a bumper for that.

It is simple and practical. I like it because I was able to add some things to it. It is shipped raw and can be customized.
I've had my protofab rear bumper/tire carrier for almost 2 years and haven't had any issues at all. When I bought it they said they would guarantee it to hold a minimum of a 38 inch tire and rim. The cam latch system has never been an issue and has never come loose...even when I bounced it off some rocks. It comes as bare metal, and I had it powder coated black. Looks and works great and is holding up extremely well.:thumbup

Well, I don't beleive in God anyway so I am sure I butchered it! lol
the 35 will lay flat in the rear floor, I secured mine in the floor and built a platform over it with room for my chain box and tool box and an axe, and then attached my hi-lift to the inside of the tailgate and it fits right into the hole next to the chain box when the tailgate is closed. I'm getting ready to fab a big drawer to put all of this in, so I can open the gate and slide it out and get to whatever I need. more on that later

no I don't have any pics, but I could probably get some on here this weekend. the cover is just made out of plywood and 2x2s, the last one I made I covered in speaker box carpet, matched the interior nice in my 88, this one is uncovered till I fab the drawer.
If I may suggest; make it so, if you have to in an emergency, you can get to stuff in that drawer with the tailgate UP. It is verry, verry possible to get stuck where the gate will not open... I haven't done it yet, but I've talked to several guys, (2 of which had the drawer set up and couldn't get at there extraction equipmet), that have.I'm getting ready to fab a big drawer to put all of this in, so I can open the gate and slide it out and get to whatever I need. more on that later

Whats the biggest tire the stock tire carrier will hold ?
33 would be the biggest I would install. It depends on how hard you wheel. Some of the desert runner guys who bounce around a lot probably could not even use 33s without the weight tearing off the carrier. If you are a full time mall cruiser and you get way with some of the lighter 35" tires.
i wouldn't even put a 33 on there, 31 woudl be the biggest i would put on if you do any type of wheeling. the one i bought on ebay is really heavy duty, has a pin that holds the part up that holds the tire, same pin as hitch pin, i just searched for tire carrier on there, this one is designed to go on tongue of a camper trailer or rear bumper.
