Spare tire carrier

Since I have decided to hang on to the BFG mud's I went ahead and ordered an extra BFG mud and a matching Eagle wheel and they should be here next week sometime and seeing as a 35" tire wont mount on the rack on the inside, where can I find a carrier for the 78-79's or something that you have used thats maybe not OE that works good. Needs to be able to support that heavy MT tire..

Thanks! :beer

Here is an option for you. This is what we did to Jason's (Blushrk) spare and I also did this before I fabbed a bumper with a tire carrier.

Cut the heads of some 3/8" bolts and welded them to the sheet metal.

Some flat bar, angle iron, a bit of square tube and some 1/2" eye bolts. There are nuts welded to the back of the angle iron for the eye bolts.

Painted up.

Installed.

Tire mounted with a ratchet strap.

The pics show a 35" tire but his 37" toyos fit too. We left enough space between the eye bolts for the upgrade. We have wheeled alot with this setup and it hasnt budged. Mine held up perfect to my 38.5" bogger as well.

i know everyone seems against it but i had a 35 12.5 mickey t on 10 inch rim on my stock carrier for 3 or 4 years with no problems and i actually have a carrier still in the shed.
here are some pics. of the platform I made to cover my tire and also my box with some trail essentials (strap, chain etc.) I have an axe and shovel that fit beside the tire. this setup is temporary untill I build my drawer, then the platform will be attached to the floor and covered with speaker box carpet.

here is the link to the pics.

Looks good until you get stuck and can't get the tailgate down, Or the rear window motor gives out
and because of that point I may not bolt the platform to the floor, then I can still flip the seat over and remove the platform. good point
Just trying to help. Had mine in the back like that and guess what..... Just speaking from experience. Now I built a rear carrier for my 38 in spare and welded it to the rear bumper works great
Thanks for the suggestions guys! As aways
there is an adaptor plate that you can get so the bigger tire will fit inside....I saw that somewhere....unfortunately I forgot where
hey matt i may still have an external tire carrier for a 79 if you want it
hey trip six......that was great ingenuity....I like how that worked out.....good job!!
