1991, 302, 5 mazda 5 speed, 1356.

Speedo did not work this moring I heard three clunking noises when i would accelerate from a stop.

I did not have any problems or warnings leading up to the failure.

Speedo is still connected at xfer.

Is this going to be soemthing from the inside of the case?

I have looked up a new cable and will get ready to swap, but I don't know if the cable is the problem.

my old speedo gear in the t-case. A bracket holds the end of the cable in, and it was gone..ground into fine little bits.

My guess is the t-case is on its way out.

I pulled the cable from the x-fer, and it looked ok.

I left the cable out and drove around, still has the clunk.

This is on my 91 f-150, so the x-fer has a slip yoke, I should be able to easily get to the speedo gear and check it all out, this probably wont be an easy fix huh? Like just replace the speed gear?

Check the U joints . If they're going bad they'll click when the slack comes out of the DS
