sulfer smell is also a big sign your battery is going out....it might be draining the battery alot while cranking, then when started it smells b/c the battery is very close to being dead untill the alt charges it back up

if you had a bad cat you would suffer a major hesitation/performane loss due to the blockage. im not so sure a cat can burn up but they can break up or get clogged, if it breaks up itll clog your muffler causing problems, if the cat clogs itll cause problems b/c its reall restricting the exhaust flow

my $0.02 hope it helps:thumbup

i just got a new optima so it better not be dead already. i havent noticed any hesitation other then when i first start her on a cold morning. once it warms up its fine.
well those are the only things i can think of on these trucks that would give off a sulfer smell, the battery would be easly tested at a parts store just incase you got a defective battery or a dead cell

the cat has a few ways you can test it or see if its bad, the first is you could do a vacuum test on a main vacuum source and check your readings at a link ill post under this, the other way is to actually take the cats out and visualy inspect them to see if theyre damaged or clogged
