earlier today i went to open the tailgate and i heard a popping noise and now it ownt open. im assuming i broke the internals to the latch :banghead. how hard is it to fix them?
If you can't open it, probably a one of the rods that connect to the handle busted.
If the tailgate is stuck closed, then it is a PITA to get in there and work on the internals. You'll need to clean out the back of the truck and pop off the access panel from the inside. Make sure you bring adequate lighting.
The good news is I recently gutted the tailgate of my parts truck, so whatever you did break, I probably have a replacement for you. :thumbup
Look at it first. Chances are 1 of the rods popped off the latch. There are plastic clips holding the rods on, 1 of them probably snapped and let the rod pop out.
I think I just ran into this same problem. When I pull on the handle the right latch opens, but the left(driver's) side stays latched. So you guys think that it's just a rod that came disconnected?
