Bronco Searchin' (update if y'all want it)

Well, I have been drivin' a 1996 Chrysler Sebring for awhile for the gas and was thinkin' how cool it would be to have a weekend gas hog; for off roadin' and stuff. So I decided to look up on trucks and came across a couple 2nd gen rams, but then found broncos. I love the 4 wheel drive in our 2004 Dodge Ram, but it is mainly for towin'. I love the look of the broncos and the fact it's huge and has a massive V8. I like the big motors and beasts. That's why I love the bronco. Just to use it as a weekend offroader and weekday fixer. I have found a few good 87-91s. Also put a few good 's in my sig. Just wonderin' if I'm makin' the right choice on a bronco over a ram.

Dodge's trannys aren't the best, but neither are autos in Broncos without good care etc... I love my truck, it is big, reliable, tough, easy to work on and looks good.

Oh yeah great choice, i have wanted one my whole life and i have only the complaint, GAS!, not that its bad on gas (but it isnt good) but that gas cost too much. And my uncle has a 95 F-150 with the E4OD and he has never had any work done on it and he has 285000ish miles on it he drives almost every week 400 miles to and from work (not incl. other driving), he has had his 302 rebuilt around 260000ish miles but only because it wasnt pulling as strong as it used to. He also does some pretty strenuos(spl?) work with it. And it is his yard work truck. But i have had 1 mopar and in the 20 thousand miles i had it i had to change the tranny twice

I dont think you will get too many votes for the Ram on a Bronco forum!

Dodge's cummings desiel will go a million miles, but the rest of the truck will fall apart twice by then

Very true. :toothless But there were a few mopar guys who recomended FORD. I have always loved the rough and tough boxy look of the bronco and it's hugeness. The only thing wrong with the image is the small stock tires, but that's easily fixed. I have looked at a few and found some real beautys and by beautys I mean barely any rust and half the truck works. But like I mentioned, I don't need a fully workin' truck. I can do most of the engine work and tranny work, but I ain't that great with body work. I am used to gas hogs bein' I've driven the ram and that gets 15 plus it takes premium. The 5.8L would even outdue the 5.7L HEMI in the ram. Basically the bronco would be a weekend mudder or crawler and maybe a few runs durin' the week. But mostly a project truck that is somewhat reliable and suits a whole buncha needs. Thanks for all the comments. The trucks you see in my sig are my top three right now. I first need to pull together the cash by takin' overtime at work.

P.S. I really appreciate all your help, I take in every input into my decision. Thanks for takin' your time to help me out!

Now exactly how much better is the 302 on gas? is it in the .01 category or does it range more than that? I won't be able to drive it to much 'cause of money issues, but I'd like to know so the choice between the 5.8 and 5.0 is clear. Most likely it will be the 302 'cause they're cheaper, but I think sayin' my motor's bigger than a HEMIs is cool to. :rockon I would also like to know necessary new truck upgrades or the more bang for the buck on the truck. I'm lookin' into smittybuilt pushbars and a dual exhaust system. I've been lookin' and searchin' and haven't turned up any systems in mags so I'm thinkin' a good mechanics shop can whip up a system. What else truly sucks on the broncos? I know y'all said the trannys aren't the greatest, but the 302 is a great engine unless I'm wrong. If I came up with the cash, a tuff country 2.5" lift and 33in tires are in the runnin'. Like I said, it will do some runs and lots o weekend muddin' and crawlin'

P.S., if y'all could list some of your mods, that'd be great to.

Well, I check carsoup and all my best and tops are on there still. Just thought I'd show you them. Most are 87-91s, a nice 84 and a good 92.

http://www.carsoup.com/used/detail.asp?usedVehicleID=2608807&minYear=1962&maxYear=2007&searchID=32569264&vehicleTypeID=1&UVViewID=4&Page=1&DealerGroupID=

This one looks pretty abused and has been on there for a while.

EDIT: IT WORKS! Here's a few more.

http://www.carsoup.com/used/detail.asp?usedVehicleID=2700001&minYear=1962&maxYear=2007&searchID=32569264&vehicleTypeID=1&UVViewID=4&Page=1&DealerGroupID=

This one has a real nice body and looks pretty good for it's age. I'm considerin' this one alot.

http://www.carsoup.com/used/detail.asp?usedVehicleID=2562495&XDealerID=2028&minYear=1962&maxYear=2007&searchID=32569264&vehicleTypeID=1&UVViewID=4&Page=1&DealerGroupID=

This white one looks real good, it even has a pushbar! I saw this one in the auto trader, says it was used at Northstar auto for pushin' the cars that won't start.

This is a pretty newer one. It looks pretty good.

Here's the older one. It came from california and is in great shape.

Unfortunatly this one is from a dealer. Nice lookin', but I don't usually trust dealers.

Are you bent on an 87-91 style Bronco? I'd tell you to get a 92+, but I'm biased :toothless

I like the boxy look of the 87-91, but there is a 92-96 in there somewhere, most just don't fit the price range. I probably would take the best deal whatever condition it's in mechanically. I test drove a 91 at the Jeep dealer while my folks were searchin' for a Jeep Wrangler and they ride so nice for their size. It was a better ride than our 2500. My only complaint with the 87-91 model year is the radio controls, they are pretty hard to reach. But that don't matter 'cause I probably will enjoy the exhaust note better. The one I drove was a 91 302 5.0 with ato tranny and auto hubs. I t had a weird sound like rubber was beatin' on the fender, but turned up nothin'. No underside problems or tire rub. It needed new u-joints and a re allignment and the body was held together with bondo. Oh well, I'll keep up the search.

I just got a 96 and it's quite a reach for the radio as well, but I guess that why allot of new aftermarket decks have remotes.

Sorry redwagon, I've heard that before. For some reason when I click the links, they work for me. Hm, well here they are! I ain't the best with computers.

This one has been up for a while now, but it is around $2,000. It is very very basic and looks like it should be a great wheeler with the 302.

This one looks very well taken care of. It has only 'bout 111,000 miles and for near $3,000.

Here is a 92. Looks good, higher miles and doesn't look abused.

My only complaint with this one is the fact it was used to push around non workin' cars around a car lot.

This 82 is from California with no rust. Runs two carbs so fuel is better, but carbs suck for wheelin'.

CAUTION: IF YOU WANT A JOKE YOU CAN LAUGH YOUR ASS OF AT, LOOK BELOW. I AIN'T RESPONSIBLE IF YA BLOW CHUNKS. I DID.

I warned ya. :uke: :uke: :uke: :uke:

I ain't even considerin' it, but thought a few of ya would laugh.
