check engine lt is on and code 311(air pump) is popping up. my question is could holes in exhaust, missing tail pipe be the cause of the code. or should i just replace the air pump.

If your engine isn't running poorly, I wouldn't worry about it. Unless smog is an issue in your area.

Holes in your exhaust won't cause that. Check the cables first.

I'd check the vacuum lines on your 'thermactor' system first. I'd bet that either the solenoid or one of it's vacuum lines is busted.
