This is what we used to do to the 9" rear axles to facilitate future ease of removal. Of course the hardest part of this is to get it out the first time!

Tech tip from my drag racing days;

While you have it out, drill and tap a 5/16 -18 bolt hole between at least three of the original bolt holes, 120 degrees apart would be the best.
You now have "jack bolts" to seperate the punkin from the housing.
Simple things like this totally evades the logic of factory thinking.
Do the same to your spindles next time they are off, makes it a 2 minure job and requires no hammering on the spindle to knock it out of round.
