Hey everyone. Took my throttle body off. The upper intake is caked with oil and crap on the inside. There’s an oil puddle in the back. How far do I go cleaning this thing?????????

Yo Icculus,
As you are aware, there's not much point in cleaning just the throttle body because gunk is all over the inside of the plenum & intake. So I'd either pull the plenum for good thorough wash, or just throw it all back together & have a pro use a hi-pressure system that works with the engine running.

Only real way to get clean is to pull it off, two things you get are carbon build up from egr and oil from pcv system, earlier models port in directly in back and ford did a bandaid fix by relocating it in later models to front intake port. They all pool oil from vapor condensation. On my rig I'm gonna install an oil catch can online with pcv. Ebay has some nice inexpensive anodized ones..
What year is your rig? Do you have MAF? That's pretty normal and is primarily caused by venting from the crankcase coming into the TB. You could add a catch can before the incoming vent to help minimize it, but I'm not sure it's worth it. Last time I had my intake off I used 3 cans of brake cleaner to get it cleaned up, but it will only stay that way so long.

It's worth it, especially in high mileage motors with more blow by in the pistons, oil in the airflow will foul plugs and cause faster carbon buildup in Childers as well as gum up valves. Here's what I'm gonna be using
