I had a new oil pump put in a few months back.
At times, when I drive it and park somewhere, I cannot get the engine to turnover. After I try a few times, it will. Is there a chance that when we put the oil pump in, we got the timing off a little bit? It has been years since I have dealt with a timing problem, but that is what it is sounding like. Thanks for any info. 1993 Ford Bronco, Eddie Br.

check for codes. it doesnt sound like timing is off maybe something else. MLPS? make sure your shift lever is all the way in park. also check for fuel pressure, spark all that good stuff. Changing your fuel pump should have no effect on your timing.

We changed the oil pump, not the fuel pump. we had to take the dist. out.
I had the engine coded out and nothing is coming back on it. The guy at the shop said that it could be the timing off a little. He did not have a timing light to ck.

Why did you have to take the dizzy off to change the oil pump for? In that case just get the engine at TDC and point the rotor to the #1 Cylinder wont be perfect but it will get you close. Still dont understand while people take th dizzy out to cahnge an oil pump

I'm wondering why you'd ever take a vehicle to a shop without a timing light. That's insane!

When you say "turn over" do you mean that the starter won't engage and the engine won't spin, or will it just not fire up? I think you meant the latter.

Anyhow, I agree that you're going to have to check the baseline timing. Get yourself a timing light; it's only about $30 for a basic one. Read the Haynes manual for the entire procedure, and have at it.

IMHO, if this shop was worth diddly squat, they'd AT LEAST have marked the distributor and rotor positions. But to not have a timing light? :crazy

I'm so sick of people here getting $hit service on their Broncos! Think I'm gonna open my own shop just to curb the trend or something...
