So today after class we went out and did a little wheeling in my truck. But i had a purpose to find some stuff for one of my Forestry classes. So when i got stuck instead of winching out we called Todd because he loves doing stuff like this. So he came and pulled me out. and then showed me up by blasting through the ruts. Then he turned aroudn and flew back through and got stuck. He stopped shifted gears and we heard BOOOOM. So he took it out of 4x4 and i pulled him out and towed/drove it to high ground. Only to see the front passenger stub shaft had broken off. Both the ears sheared off the stub.
Now we didnt get any pics of him or I stuck cuz he forgot he had the camera. But there is carnage pics. Friday is the tear down and rebuild so we can go wheeling again saturday. Dana 50 stub shaft goes in this time. And luckly he did the C-clip eliminator when he blew the front diff up, so the stub shaft should be easy. Knock on wood.

I'll get better ones at home. One ear is completely sheared off the stub shaft which is pretty sweet if you ask me. I'll have to do something with the stub shaft so it doesnt fall out of the diff.

I broke 2 u-joints last fall and destroyed my D44 spiders gears and now I broke the stub shaft, you must not be wheelin hard enough. 15 inches of mud is fun

yeah it was deep stuff. and Todd likes to put the hammer down through the mud. But this time he wasnt even on it hard when it let go. But i will agree the Dana 44 TTB wasnt built for the wheelign up here, and Todds Driving.

Oh and how can we forget Todd destroying the 8.8 rear too. I say 10.25 that thing and put the dana 50 TTB under it for now. All you need is some 8 lug 15" rims.

My 250 has a D44 but the 10.25 might be nice

How do you break so much front axle stuff with that thing? Isn't it open? You just must have the magic touch or something. My buddy has seriously beat his '85 Bronco that's all stock except for 34in LTB's and welded spiders in the 8.8 and he has never broken any axle related parts. The truck has been all through Attica, Apple Valley, and tons of trips to McCaslin Mt and the TTB has held up flawlessly.

i would say it is more of a gear thing with the oversized tires....i broke more when i had 3.55's w/open diffs on 35's then i do with the 4.10's now and locked......of course i was dropping the hammer harder then too. Now i ease it because i am tired of trail fixes

Better pics

Note the missing ears on the stub shaft, oops...

The stub shaft is ready for removal, I'm really glad I did the c-clip removal trick.

The previous D44 carnage (last fall), note the lack of teeth on the spider gears

Nice.

It is likely the 33's, 3.54 and open. With a locked front most stuff is crawl. open front/rear you have to hammer down since you're lucky if you have 2 wheels working for you most of the time.

Though he does seem to have more than his share of busting stuff.
