Has anyone had one after age 25?

I'm 28 and I am scheduled this Friday at 8Am to have mine cut out along with a deviated septum fix in the right side of my nose ( many of good ol' fist fights), from a broken nose that never healed right and has given me some sleep apnea in exchange.

So... Just wondering what to expect? Don't know anyone my age thats had them out, everyone I knew was about 10-12 yrs old.

I still got mine..everytime I go into a doc they ask if i'm feeling sick and feel my glands. My tonsils are HUGE, but never have given me any trouble. Why are they removing them now?

I had mine out when I was in my mid 30's.
If you need them out don't wait it only gets worse the older you get.

My son had his out almost the same time I did.
Little bastard was fine the next day I suffered for weeks. :toothless

It took me two weeks to be able to eat anything that wasn't liquid.
I remember how awesome it felt just to be able to slip a noodle down.

But I am glad I had mine out, haven't had a serious throat infection since then.

i need mine out, just never got around to it. Mine are huge and nasty and when I was younger they would affect my breathing and I would get tonsillitus (sp?) really bad. Its gotten better as I get older but over summer I had a really bad case of it. Fever of 104+ and drank water nonstop. I couldnt eat for about a week, so I drank water and lost about 5lbs during that time.

The recovery time is a little longer as you get older but you are still young so you should be fine.

You may want to look into it yourself there Kid.
I suffered for years with frequent bouts of Tonsilitis.

As my ENT specialist put it, The Tonsils do perform a function much like a garbage can but sometimes the garbage can gets so full and nasty that it starts spilling over and ends up causing more harm than it does good.

And since you are so young I assume you may still be eligible to have it taken care of under your parents medical insurance. There is no such thing as a cheap surgery anymore so if you need it you might consider sooner rather than later.

I think most kids who have problems with their Tonsils grow out of it before they get to be your age. Just something to think about.

HAd mine out about three years ago, along with fixing my nose, and removing my adnoids. They also shaved a chunk off my toungue at the same time... Really never hurt, never took any pain meds. Just like having strep throat or something.... FYI it did'nt fix my apnea though. Had several more surgeries before we finally got it under control... Good luck. PM if you have any questions. But it was really no big deal----Fog

Its not uncommon to have them removed later in life, but it is always better to have surgery when you are younger. At 28, you shouldn't have any problems. They can laser them out depending on the circumstances and the surgeon.

I had my tonsils removed when I was a kid. I had deviated septum surgery last year and I'm very happy with the result. I never even knew I had a problem until I had such a badly infected sinus and had to go to the doctor. Since the surgery I can breathe way easier and I didn't think I was breathing bad before hand. Good Luck.

I had mine out as a kid (4th or 6th grade, somewhere around there). I remember it being a rather painful experience. Granted, I had both my tonsils and my adnoids out at the same time so I got twice the punishment.

I remember having lots of pudding and grape juice for about two weeks. My brother went in at the same time and only had his tonsils removed and recovered a bit faster than I did.

Before I went in, I couldn't breath through my nose and it certainly fixed that.

I've been getting sore throats about 6-10 times a year, I mean bad ones.. I get sick also about the same amount per year. Other than that I am a healthy 28 yr old guy, physically fit, eat well, exercise daily and am a non smoker /drug user. I take a daily vit's and other suppliments, so I went to a ear nose and throat specialist and he said thats what keeps getting infected and causing allot of discomfort. So, here I am!

Can't they laser these out now?
Ya we looked into that 3-4 years back but very few surgeons did it. I'm not sure if the technology is perfected. I would imagine it is pretty good by now

Ya. I'll be turning 18 in September and I'm not sure if that removes me from their coverage or not. My tonsils have what my doc calls "craters" and they fill up with shit and get infected. Usually they get irritated by cankersores on the back of my tongue. Fvcking sucks! Sure is nice to be covered though! I had bypass open heart surgery when I was 4 and insurance helped a ton.

I still got mine but am always having throat and nasal problems. but my friend had hers out when she was like 26 and she said it was horrible, plus she smoked which made it even worse and made it take a whole heck of a lot longer to heal, you'd think if it hurt that much to smoke you'd just quit but she would suffer her way thru every cigarette lol granted I smoke too but if its that bad it ain't worth it, I know when I am sick I don't smoke at all

Good luck there, have yourself lots of freezy pops and ice cream on hand

I didn't even know they still removed tonsils...i thought that was a thing of the past. Mine were removed at age 7...still vividly remember waking up and crazily freaking out. I can't immagine it being that bad to a grown adult...
