go to any parts pit and pick up the 4 pin flat one.

it has directions which color wires go into the trucks harness. all you need is running lights, signals, and brake lights.

He probably wants trailer brake wires set up too...:shrug
if the guy said that the trailer has a flat 4 wire plug, then the trailer doesn't have brakes...

that's gonna be a lot of weight for your truck to stop...

White - Ground
Yellow - Left Turn
Green - Right Turn
Red - Brake
Black - Marker / clearence lights
Brown - Tail lights
Blue - Aux circuit

Black and Brown might be the same thing
Blue might be blank

Make sure the White is ground should be the center pin

So stick one end of the tester in the center pin.
Stick the other probe of that tester on the other colored pins
The light should come on when you turn on the above features

The adaptor you have will work fine for a 4 flat connection. You have 2 options with that adaptor first 4 flat and the other 3 male and 1 female, normal for most tralers. As far as poking with the testar just put in your adaptor and have someone press the brakes check the 4 flat side all four connections until you get a light, blinkers one for left and one for right, and running lights.

i got under the limo to get a good ground and to my surprise i found 2 more plugs back there.. one was a simple 4 flat and the other was a setup with 8 like whats on the end of my adapter.. i checked it and it worked.. so im setup for a couple of different plugs and didnt know about it..

Are you going to rewire the trailer for brakes when you get it?

just because a trailer has a 4 pin plug does not mean it does not have brakes.

alot of trailers have surge brakes which do not need any electric controls for them.
