I was recently given an '83 F250 International Diesel 2WD truck. The truck only has 87k original miles on it, and all original sheetmetal, none of which is rotted out. Any fellow Rust Belt owners could know right away this truck was taken care of very well.

Anyway, since the truck cost me nothing, and has nothing wrong with it, I figured Id convert it to 4WD. Truck already has new kingpins up front, rear leafs, 4 brand new tires.

Ive found an '88 F250 for sale locally for next to nothing with a junk engine. Id prefer to have a D60 up front, but its just more than I want to spend on it to be honest with you. Im curious if the transfercase (assuming a 1356?) will bolt up to the back of the C6 in the '83 F250? Or, any chance swapping the front crossmembers and dropping the 6.9/C6 combo in the '88?

Im susposed to go take a look at the truck today, so any help is appreciated.

No, you're going to need a 4WD trans for that 83.
