Can anyone tell me what this part is called? It's the one labeled "?????"

It is the one that mounts to the transmission crossmember. Mine is cracked where it mounts to the crossmember, so only one side is being held down.
I had my transmission built last year and they welded it back together, but it has broken again (the weld held, but it broke around it). They said they tried to find a replacement casing before they welded it but couldn't find one.

My questions are these:

1. I have a 1981 SROD manual transmission, which is a 3spd with OverDrive. From what I hear, they're pretty rare. Is this part transmission specific, or will one from any transmission work? Its bolted to the transmission, so as far as I can tell, it is removable without removing the whole transmission.

2. Where can these be found? The work is under warranty, so the shop will cover that. But I know they're going to charge an arm and a leg for the casing to the part.

3. If I find one, is this pretty easy to just swap out myself?

Thanks.

It's not the NP-435, but the picture does show me that it is transmission specific, as yours looks completely different than mine. it's basically the last six - eight inches of the transmission. It bolts on, but looks to still be part of it.

I changed the diagram to more accurately depict the part I'm talking about. I will also try and get a picture of it.

In your picture, the part in red is the one I'm talking about. The bracket circled in green is what has cracked and separated.

Anyone know where to track down parts like this? The local junk yard is really limited, so they most likely don't have any with this transmission.

As far as I can tell, that one won't work on mine as I don't have an NP-435 or T18 transmission. Do you know if it would work on the SROD?

Is there a way to fix a transmission mount flange? They welded it, and the weld worked, but it broke again next to the weld.

I didn't do the original work, so i don't know if anything's bent. Very possible though. Think maybe the crossmember's bent?
How difficult is it to remove the intermediate housing without removing the transmission?

remove the t-case, support the trans, remove crossmember, then unbolt housing, not very hard

The exhaust solid as in it doesn't rest on the crossmember? Yeah, I just put on a new exhaust last week and I can almost hang my entire weight on it and it won't move (and is an inch or two above the crossmember.)

I have heard that the SROD is made of aluminum (which is why it cracks), but makes it extremely light, like 50+lbs or something, so that would make sense it wouldn't necessarily need the extra support.

What is a two sided transmission shifter? How would I know?

Also, I looked at my crossmember last night and it appeared to be straight. It also looked just like the one in Steve83's pictures that he said was rare.

What's different about it?

I'd actually looked through the album several times. You have a wealth of information, which I thoroughly appreciate. However, if one doesn't know what they're looking for or at, its easy to miss.
In those regards, I'm still not sure what answers I was to find in the diagrams. I saw pictures of the crossmember, and it looked like mine, but my Bronco is the only one I've ever looked at, so its all I know. I was curious how its different or why its rare.

As for the two sided transmission shifter.... still clueless. I have no idea what that even is, or what it would be if I saw it.

Sorry, I had them on zoomed full detail view, looking at the details in the drawings, which makes the captions easy to miss. Thanks for pointing them out. I read the subtitles on the first go-through but didn't know what I was looking for yet, and missed them the second.

As for the T-case shifter, yeah, its the double sided linkage for the SROD. Looking at the pictures, I can see why it would be a little more of a pain to remove.

Thankyou.

EDIT: Yeah, that transmission mount looks nothing like mine. Have the rare one for sure.
