Vac hose for throttle body

I noticed that this hose is starting to dry rot and crack on my 96 302. Anyway one side of the hose is bigger. The side of the hose that connects to the plastic line is bigger than the side that connect to the throttle body metal line. So you can't just use a normal hose. and expect it to work.

What should I do here? Anyone know what this hose is for?

Vac hose

And it runs to this..

My 86 has 2 vacuum lines off the TB with a plastic Y shaped connection becoming one line which goes over to the MAP sensor, not sure where your line winds up but my rubber line did the same thing so I just found a similar size rubber hose at Kragen and it works fine, it's just a vacuum line NBD......................

Is that a set of the Goodyear hoses I see......Awesome!

Good Luck ~ :thumbup
That's your VMV in the 2nd picture, with the line for vapor purge going to the throttle body. Something fuel-resistant would be a good idea. They sell little elbows like that at NAPA. Otherwise, I'd form a piece of nylon line to a 90º angle and slip some hose over the ends.

Yea they are really nice, they give you plenty of hoses in the kit, I think I have 5 hoses left and I got the whole cooling system running the goodyear hoses.

Alright I should be able to rig something up.

Yes, you can. Rubber stretches. ;) Get some vacuum/vapor/emissions hose that fits the SMALLER nipple & put a little soap on the larger nipple. Use needle-nose pliers inside it to pre-stretch that end of the new hose & it'll slip on.

I hope it is appropriate to revive this thread and add my recent findings........

I have a 95 5.8L with CA emissions. I have been having issues with rough idle, especially after about 15 seconds of idling. I have no codes, did the SixLitre tune-up, timing, replaced the IAC, with no luck.

While refilling the transmission fluid, I leaned on this hose and SNAP. I found SigEp's old post that this is my VMV value. VMV takes the fumes from the charcoal canister (connected to gas tank) and other sources and routes them into the TB. The VMV is located in the back of the engine bay, passenger side.

The tubing was very brittle and was routed by Ford along the block and to the front of the TB, with ABSOLUTELY no extra slack . So the engine torquing, gas vapors and engine heat has worn away over on the tubing over the past 15 years. It had many small cracks along the length and at the TB elbow, so no noticeable hissing sounds. I replaced with fuel rated 3/8" and 1/4" ID tubing, spliced together with a connector. Nothing fancy or pretty.

The engine runs perfect now. Smooth idle, easy starting. For anyone with this valve (I read it is only certain years and emissions systems), you may want to pull and check. It is worth the $7 in tubing.

Glad you got it sorted out Brother ~ :thumbup
