Update on shipping the Bronco ...
I got a quote back from my local mechanic and will be shipping with him. He offered to ship my Bronco for $850. I could have saved a little bit of money going elsewhere, but I didn't feel 100% confident with the low bids. I am sure that most of them would do a fine job, but saving a few hundred dollars isn't worth the risk to me.
There seemed to be 3 main classes of companies interested in moving my truck.
1) Small time shippers on uShip who have 1 or two trailers a a few trucks. These guys have offered between $400 and $700 to ship it. My only problem with these guys is that I don't have ANY idea as to how reliable/experienced they are. If I was shipping something that had less sentimental value, I would probably talk to these guys on the phone and go with the company that I felt the most comfortable with.
2) Large companies that offered between $800 and $1,000 to ship it. These were a bit more expensive, but had a reliable track record. The major problem with them was that the pick-up/delivery times were ranges and not specific times. Also, some of the shipping schedules meant that the truck would be in their hands for up to 3 weeks. I didn't feel comfortable.
3) Large companies that specialized in shipping imports and exotics. These quotes were $1100-1600 and would the closest to a guarantee that my Bronco made it to the beach in the same shape that it left WV.
On a side note, it's amazing how expensive a "free" Bronco can be. I'll probably start a project thread on my truck once I get it delivered.
