While the engine is out of my 91 Eddie Bauer, I am taking the opportunity to clean the evaporator core. I observed a very tacky seal type substance where the two halves of the housing come together. What is this stuff and where can I get more ? Is there a substitute ?

Oh I hate that stuff, gooey gross tar like substance, but it does do the job! Good to know, as I'll be going thru my a/c soon.

Thanks for the reply concerning Eastwood strip caulk, I just can't bring myself to pay that much money in addition to the shipping. I wish there was a substitute since only a small amount is needed.

I bought that stuff from Eastwood to seal up a few areas in my engine compartment. It's not cheap, but it works well and that box will go a long way.

on the plus side, it keeps forever, so no worries about it going bad.
