What is this box on the inner fender and is it required for the engine to run?

Unless you're running an aftermarket ignition box which is what I'm doing. I removed my factory icm.

It's you ignition box. One plug runs wires to the distributor and the other plug is power and timing retard during starting.
Yes you need it or won't have any spark.

Yes as a matter of fact it is wise to carry a spare. They go out without warming when they go. They go out often. Definitely a weak spot in the bronco
Not just the bronco, my buddy has a 83 wagoneer that used the ford icm and his goes out all the time especially now that only chinese repros are available

So...I'm guessing you don't need it if you have one of those HEI style distributors? Or did my PO hide it somewhere else on my rig? Because I don't have one there... :D
