what is the correct socket to remove the four bolts holding the rear driveshaft to the transmission? A 5/16 star holds it, but not tight enough to tighten it. I want to buy the right socket, but the local parts store is not familar with the head size on the bolt. thanks for the help.

Are you sure on a 5/16"being too loose? IIRC on my 94 it's a 12mm, 12 point but I"m sure an 82 is different. 5/16" just seems too small for a driveshaft bolt.

yes.....it was a 5/16 "star" socket-----first used a cheap one on a 1/4 inch rachet, then a craftsman brand on a 3/8 drive-----would get snug, but just would not let me tighten. i did not want to round it off, so stopped when i felt it slip once. it is on a 1982, and i have no way of knowing if they are the original bolts. thanks for your help.

12 point socket is what it takes. 1/2 inch IIRC
