i use regular, always. i used mid-grade for one tank and i got 2mpg better, but i just broke even with the cost, so who cares.

and about every 2 months i run a can of seafoam through the tank.

The old Beater motor pinged on regular so I used mid grade. New Ford Long Block is waiting for me to pick it up Saturday, I'll see how it runs on regular after a couple tanks for break in.

That happened in my area once. For a day.

I use regular. I got no pinging or anything, so no need to step it up.

Performance wise, it doesn't make much of a difference. The higher the octane, the higher the resistance to burn. Most people will use higher octane under a pre-ignition type circumstance. With all the cars I drive, unless there's a problem, I use what the owners manual tells me to.

I run regular only, with the stock engine anything higher is a waste of money.
