Is their a technical term for the seals that go on the axle shafts before the U joints? Mine are dry rotted to hell and I need to get new ones. Are they just axle shaft seals?

When you replace those seals, also replace the axle shaft support bearing that is inside the spindle. The seals and bearings come as a set per side as National bearing part number SBK-1. Don't recall what it's called in the various catalogs, but it's what you need.
