This noise sounds like the engine is dieseling or something, but I really dont know if it is the engine or the transmission. It happens when the truck needs to kick down a gear but hangs a bit when I press the gas. At first I thought I had some bad gas so I went and put a full tank of 93 octane in it. The noise is still there. It gets worse the longer the tranmission dosnt kick down a gear, but when it kicks down and the RPMS kick up it goes away. Any help would be great thanks.
sounds to me like its detonating or pinging what ever you want to call it. the high octane should help. or you might try some octane boost from wally world or an auto parts store. I'm not sure but I think timing can effect this also.
I agree it sounds like detonation but I would recommend finding the cause as opposed to putting a band-aid on it. Detonation can blow your engine up. You say the tranny isn't down shifting like normal? You may have a timing prob, a vacuum leak, or a tranny vacuum leak/solenoid prob.
