Hey guys. I like others on her damaged my Transmission Cooler Lines replacing my radiator on my 94 Bronco 5.8L. I shopped around and found the best deal was at inline tube and before asking here went ahead and ordered.

I tried repairing the lines I damaged but just continues to leak so I thought going with new ones for the new radiator would be best. Doesn’t seem too hard to accomplish. When installing these lines to the radiator what do you recommend I use to ensure no leakage? Teflon or plumbers tape?

Aren't those inverted flare fittings? With the tube going thru a male threaded nut & a flare at the end of the tube? If that's the case, the sealing is done between the flare & the domed shaped portion at the bottom of the hole. The threads don't actually seal, so no teflon tape should be needed on flare fittings. You might use something if you are installing an adapter from ips to flare, but you have to be careful to not get a piece of teflon into the open end.

As for plumber's tape, that's the metal stuff with holes in it.

As @El Kabong said, the flare fittings seal themselves, so no Teflon tape needed, in fact no sealing compound of any kind should be used...

This is the current attempt to fix, the lines I’ve ordered have not arrived as of yet but neither seem to be flared just a male thread in. Am I missing something? @slimpartywagon @El Kabong

If it was leaking fluid from the fitting where it threads into the radiator cooler, it may be the radiator. I bought an aluminum radiator from Amazon for the Bronco and when we put it in it leaked tranny fluid from the fittings at the threads. We just replaced it with another aftermarket that was the same as OEM. Afterwards, I got to wondering if I needed to use the adapters that were on the original radiator instead of screwing the lines directly into the radiator. I haven't checked it yet to see if it makes a difference. Just food for thought.

Those fittings don’t look quite right... the radiator is tapped for NPT fittings, but the Transmission Cooler is inverted flare... similar threads, but IF threads aren’t tapered like NPT.

I just checked the aluminum radiator we had the issue with the leaks on. It is 1/4 npt, not inverted flare. You will need an adapter. Use thread sealer on the radiator side of the adapter.

Update: cooler lines came in for the 1993, the top radiator to transmission line worked. The bottom port does not as the 93 runs directly to transmission where as the 94 runs to a front oil cooler in the grille. Still trying to find a good solution. Can’t find any 94 transmission cooler lines for sale!

Fixed this by using the 93 line and cutting it down to size. Then used a compression fitting to secure the two cut lines together. Works perfectly with no leaks.
