I searched the archives and found talk of 3" backspace placing stress on components. I didn't see anything about a 4.5" backspace though.

I would like to run 17"x9" Centerline Wilderness with -12mm offset and 4.5" backspacing and 285 70 17 Goodyear MTRS on a leaf sprung 1991 D60. I will be using new replacement F350 front leaves. Does anyone see any problems with this?

Thanks in advance!

Only thing that might be a problem is the bead hitting the tie rod end. My wheels with a 4" backspace are about 1/4" away, but they are 16's, your 17's might be OK

39.5 X 13.5 X 17 Irok's on 17 X 9 steels with 4.5" back spacing.

38.5 X 14.5 X 16.5 SX's on 16.5 X 9.75 steels with 4.5" of back spacing.

No clearance issues.

I think your only clearance issues will be rubbing on your 3" wide springs if you are running them at 36" of spacing but I can't say for sure. I'm running 2.5" springs on 32" spacing. Also 37 X 17 MT/r's on 9" wide wheels measure just 36.25ish so spring width and spacing might not be a factor in clearance at all.

Not that I have a leaf spring setup, but that would be my only thought too...possible rub of leaf setup at 36" spacing. A BS of 4.5 on a 17x9 is perfect as far as centering and would have no issues with added stress on components (think you were likely reading about large BS to help clearance brakes, which then can induce added stress on wheel bearings).

I will be using smallish tires

thanks for your replies,
I will be running smallish tires. I might even use a 275 70 17 which translates into 32.3"*10.86*17.

What do you think of this logic..
We know this backpace works with 32" spaced leaves. and 2.5 " wide sprins

The difference between 36 and 32 in spacing is 4", but it is really only 2" per side.

The difference in springs is really only .25 of an inch, because 3"-2.5" *.5=.25" and I assume the extra half inch spreads evenly across the perches..

So, I have a possible 2.25" of clearance issue.

But, we know it works with dogonmuts 38.5 X 14.5 X 16.5s

These tires are 14.5" wide, mine are 10.86" wide. The difference is 3.64".

again dividing by two and I get 1.82" of clearance 'made up' by running the smaller tires.

so....
2.25-1.82=.43"....

sounds really close, but probably ok. This assumes my calculations are right and Dogonmut has ZERO clearance at full lock. If they do touch a little in the parking lot, any harm done?

sounds decent. and being that close, if it turns you rub slightly, adjust the stoppers a tad, you're still getting about all you can out of your turning.
