So I took the rig on a short drive, everything was fine. I stopped to get something to eat...apon leaving I put her in reverse and then she died:banghead...shifted to park and turned the key...the engine turns over but no start...After looking at it for a while and trying to start it over and over I was smelling gas in the engine area...tells me that the pump is good and working I'm just not getting a spark. The distibutor cap and spark plug wires were replaced reciently so...I am stuck...

Any ideas?:whiteflag

Take a spark plug wire off a plug and put a screwdriver (something insulated) in the wire. Have someone crank it over while you hold the screwdriver close (1/4") to some metal. Be careful, this can shock like hell if you touch it. There should be a little arc to the metal. If there is no spark it could be: Coil, loose wire, broken wire from ignition switch to coil, ignition module, distributor...list goes on. Once I had to have mine towed home, it was the coil wire not pushed all the way into the coil.

You need a Volt-Ohm meter to check voltages. I used to use a 12v bulb on a couple clippy wires, ground the negative and poke around to find if the voltage to coil stops somewhere.

Sometimes smelling gas doesn't mean that the pumps are working properly. I have had mine not start when hot, it was the "in tank" fuel pump getting weak. Had gas at the rails, but not enough pressure. There is a gauge that is used for pressure testing.

Do you have a code reader? This might tell you if a (?) sensor is bad. Won't tell you if a wire is loose or broken. Good Luck.

More then likely it is going to be your (ignition module) When they go out its all of a sudden with no warning. But pull codes first, it will tell you. But it wouldn't hurt to get one anyway just to have in the glove box. And you need the lil tool to for it.

Did you see if you had any spark at all???? The mass air flow fault Is cause the bronco Is not running during the test IIR???

Sounds notoriously like an ignition module.

Your not getting spark sooooo

Check where your not getting spark from
Coil
Cap
Rotor
Wires

If all of those have no spark then that module is bad in most cases
They test them at parts stores

Thanks alot guys. I have not had the time to test spark. First thing tomorrow afternoon, I'll get right on this and let you know.

So I replaced the coil and the Ignition Module and the spark plugs; it's as if nothing has changed. still just turns over with no start.

Yes just did. It's getting a spark. So does that mean it's the fuel pump? How hard is it to replace and does it cost alot??

Is it possible that it's just the fuel filter and it's not getting enough pressure? If this is the case I hear that you need a special tool to replace the fuel filter?

No special tools are required as far as I remember, but first I would find out what the problem is before replacing items. After cranking the engine, are the plugs wet or dry?

I just tested the fuel pressure, it's at about 25-30 psi (a little on the low side but not too bad). I'm going to replace the fuel filter today and see if that does anything.
Is it possible for that little pressure (25-30 compare to 35-45) to be a difference in the rig not being able to start?

Dont forget the reservior filter it isnt listed for the truck anymore but it is acdelco gf750, purolator f50126, napa/wix 33268 or autozone ff616
