And some encouraging words would work, too. :toothless

I just went and picked up an application for the local Ford dealer, gonna try to get part time in the Parts Dept or part time as a tech helper.

I've been goofing off for 2 years now, enjoying this new kidney and being healthy. It's time I buckle down and get a job. Other than the carriage thing which to me isn't really like 'work' I've only worked 3 other times in my life - other than catering which I did for a few years, the other two jobs were brief, 2-3 months at most because I was sick and all were before 1997. So it's been awhile since I've actually worked a job. And I'm skurred. :toothless

This will be a totally new chapter in my life and I hope it goes well. I've been procrastinating for over a month now. So cross your fingers for me. Thanks. :)

Thanks ya'll. I'm sure I'll be fine, there's just that afraid of the unknown thing I've got. Same thing I've battled every time I've done something new and as always it's worked out fine for me. Of course the biggest thing I was scared of and tackled was the transplant and that went great. :thumbup

I just registered to take my ASE tests, too. A1 Engine Repair and P2 Parts Specialist. yay. Maybe this time I won't fail A1 by 2 questions. :banghead

What pictures? :brownbag ;)

Ok, so I took the application up there and turned it in. The Service Manager was in a meeting, so I left it with a girl that told me where he was.

How long do I wait to hear from them before I call, or go up there?

Go everyday or make an effort to go in and talk with the manager to see if he actually got the application.

Good luck, they should be honored to have someone with your interests and background working for them.

That's a good idea. I'll call up there in a little while to make sure he got it.

Man i hate when ppl call every day about their app. After you go up there again and see if he received your app then dont call every day. Check in once a week and just ask if the position has been filled and tell them your name. When you go talk to him first, make sure you show your personality and show that you are able to talk about anything and everything. It helps, alot.

Well, I knew who to go ask for - the service manager - because he's a friend of my two Automotive teachers and they told me to go talk to him. When I first met him, I told him I was a student at Chattahoochee and what not, and said I was lookin' for something part time. He said he didn't have anything in the service department and I said I'd be willing to work in Parts. He got me an application and I filled it out. So I dunno if they even have a job open. I put Parts Dept or Tech Helper/Apprentice on the part asking what job I wanted. :shrug

I sure as hell hope they have something for me. My dad keeps pushing me to work for one of the Parts stores - Advance, Autozone, etc - and after hearing stories from friends of mine that were assistant managers, I don't think I see me working at a Parts store.

Never know mels, if you dont get on at ford, then try a parts store or another auto dealer. Autozone and such may need someone like you that actually knows their shit. Unlike the female we have working at O'reilleys here. Hell we called up there once for a lift kit for a corvette, and she was like hold on let me go look up the part number. Dumb ass i tell ya.

Good luck on whatever you get and get to do. Im sure youll do great in either place. :thumbup

Heh, yeah, I think it might have some entertainment value. I'd love for a guy to come in and try to pull one over on the 'dumb ol girl.' Like a radiator cap for a VW Beetle or spark plugs for a Powerstroke, along with muffler bearings and blinker fluid. :toothless

I was just lookin' on the 4 Wheel Parts website, I might even apply there. :brownbag

Good luck with your search Mels, hope you're happy with what you get, I'd like to work at an autoparts store (if I knew more than what's in my truck), sounds fun, and it DOESN'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH FOOD! :histerica

Hardy Boys in Dallas. Do you still have that friend that works at Bleakley? If Hardy doesn't work out, I may go over there, too. I'd really, really, really like to be in a Ford dealership since most of what I know is with Fords.
