Oh, I'll be back there sometime soon and I'll check it out again. I wasn't after a ZF, but noticed it when I was walking through. Had it been intact though, I may have lugged it home with me for a swap down the road. I'm sure a ZF will make it into my 78 at some point, just not right now.

There's a 79 F-250 2wd that has a factory front sway bar that I'm considering putting some effort into retrieving. It looks like I'll have to unbolt the bottom of the front springs at least in order to get it. It bolts to the frame and then the end links bolt to brackets that bolt onto the i-beams where the springs and radius arms meet. It's a huge cluster of stuff right there. I think it would be nice on my F100 and the 2wd sway bars seem to be uncommon in the yards, especially of this vintage.
I think the 76 f100 I saw a while back had a swaybar. It also had a SAGINAW power steering pump that looked as aged as the rest of the engine. I did pull the brush guard off it.

I have two brush guards off dentsides, and the one from a 250 is like 4" wider at the mounts. Both mount to the frame!?

I'd like a zf in my 78, when the time comes to get her running again.

Went to one yard today! There was an F250 HD which usually has a zf5. But not this one, turned out to be an automatic.

The other truck I wanted to check out was an 86 f150 flatbed. Had a brush guard on the front and a 5.0. The retractable underhood light was broke off, and no underhood toolbox. But the brush guard is a heavy beast and will probably go on my bronco. But I'll have to cut that bottom bar to fit around my hitch.

Moving on farther down the line... I see a bricknose flatbed one ton. But wait, how many lugs is that, ten? Crikey, an F-Superduty! Only the second one I've come across.

Obviously 2wd, with a dually D80 out back and a 460 backed by a ZF5. But as I peeked under to look for a PTO, I saw a 4x4 trans with a parking brake unit mounted where a transfer case would go. If the truck wasnt resting on the transmission crossmember, I'd have snagged it for my 78 351M.

Under the hood I found a decent looking hydroboost brake unit. This necessitated taking the matching pedals, which were now half removed anyways. This will be going on my 88 f250 rock crawler future project. Perfect!

@BigBlue 94 Great score on the brush guard. Very period correct. That F Superduty Brick, didn’t know they made them. 8 lugs yes, 10? Who knew!

Seen several of the brick nose f-super duty over the years. Tow trucks and flat beds and car haulers. Maybe even a service utility bed or bucket truck too.

Once you have a bricknose you notice those things more often. 87-91 was a lot of firsts for ford. EFI, f-super duty, LD f250. Special edition vehicles such as nite and silver anniversary. I call 87-91 the trial period for aeros and onward since 97-98 was the year of the LD f250 again. Custom models were an earlier version of the stx trucks. XL with options essentially. I used to really like the high trim brick nose crew cab 4x4 f350 srw trucks. I haven't seen them since 2011-2012!! And that's when they were bottoming out in value. I wonder if any are still left in driving condition. I looked for a 1 ton 4x4 truck for 5-6 years before I bought one in my price range. Ended up finding a v10 super duty; absolutely love it

I see just as many bricknose crew cabs as I see aeronose. Most arent as nice as the Aeros though. There's actually two dentside crew cabs in my town still running. One is lifted sky high and is 4x4, other is a 2wd flatbed. I had a beautiful 96 CCLB PSD for a while, till it burned. Less than 200k on it. I loved that truck.

Saw an aero supercab yesterday with a rear seat delete. No jumps and no holes anywhere.

Now I have a 96 f350 with a 351w and zf5 and an 08 with a 5.4 and ZF6. Both regular cab longbeds on 35s.

@BigBlue 94 LOL, yes, I knew that. I had a 88 F150, 4.9 5sp. 4X4. It was a Custom. Plain Jane. Beat the heck out of it. (I’ll try to dig out the pic). Came in handy during the Hurricane Andrew recovery...that beat it up even more.

In ‘93, I horse traded with a bud a I got a ‘88 XLT Bronco. Sold the Bronco (huge mistake) and bought a new ‘01 F-150 6cyl 5 sp! Why 5sp? Because it sat on the lot for 2 months....that’s an eternity for a dealer...so I got a great price. Put 98K miles on her, pulling a 23’ 1979 Seacraft center console. Slave cylinder gave out at 70K but the clutch and flywheel were OK.

Then, sold my boat, retired, kids left to college (damn C19- now they’re back)....sold the Ford and went Chevy...SS.

I’m really a Chevy guy...my Dad always rolled one....and he only bought car batteries at Sears!
But I’m back in the Ford game!
Here’s my 1st Chevy, circa 1980...Wolfie, my Malemute....and rocking a Bad Company concert T!!!

Rock on, stay safe!

I bleed ford blue, but have owned one chevy... a 79 Z28, unfortunately with an automatic. Was repainted metallic blue with the z28 stripe package in gold and brown. American racing outlaw II wheels. Was a fun car! We had a 64 c10 stepside short bed with out spare tire notch rotting at the end of our driveway too. It was my dads.

Hehehe...I know, it’s blasphemy to post this on a Ford site but:
My Elky restomod. 355stroker. 400hp. Nothing sounds like a cammed, zero emissions, Holley carbed SBC....like a Harley’s sound track, you know one when you hear it!

Kinda like a 7.3 powerstroke... I can hear one and know it instantly.

My z28 had a 350 with a Q-Jet on it. Bent a pushrod at 130mph, then the machine shop screwed up the heads and we couldnt find the receipt for warranty. Sold it off.

@BigBlue 94 130mph. Wow. I don’t think I would’ve gone that fast. Changing back to Fords, check out the plugs my mechanic pulled from my truck. Would AC Delcos rust like that? LOL kidding. This rig sat for 2 years. Removed all the obsolete smog parts. I hope to get it later....I want my FORD!!

I pulled the plugs out of my 99 econoline after 140k. Gaps were all over .085"! One over .100". Unsurprisingly, my mpgs went up by 3 after changing them and the wires.

130 isnt scary LOL, but 150 feels like twice as fast. I hit 150 in my 03 mach 1, once. Felt like I was about to take off! 120 to 125 in that car felt like nothing.

It isn't a JY find, but it is something purchaseable and fits the direction of the discussion:

"1978 E350 van flat bed 8x10 with dump bed 12v hydraulic pump has 460 v8 motor automatic transmission has jvc am/ fm stereo cd player Bluetooth CB radio asking $ 2,500 or best offer

Runs and drives could use a little tlc windshield needs to be resealed has 5th wheel hitch tow package

I drove this as a daily driver has good tags and clean title"

A dually dump bed big block that screams '70s?? Needless to say, I want it for no good reason whatsoever.

Since this is the junkyard thread, I went today and pulled the tach speedo w/ trip odometer out of that 88 F250 with the ZF5. Also took the pedals. Wasn't quite ready to lay down the dollars for the transmission yet.

Saw a 93 F150 with the 4.9/auto XL. Had only the rear gas tank. long bed. I took the fuel switch blank.

Also found some more weights; the lifting kind. I guess a lot of people pay good money at the store for these things, then decide to throw them out for pennies/lb. I won't say I've outfit a home gym with what I find there, but I have two fullsize bars, one dumbbell bar, a set of 15lb and 30lb dumbbells, and 150+ lbs of weights to go with them. I don't work out either. Like all the other stuff I buy there, "someday I'll use them".

I left another matching set of 10lb weights there, because I didn't think I had enough cash for everything, but my friend behind the counter said, "20 bucks" (for everything. I was expecting $60). If I'd known that, I would have taken the other weights.

I find the bricknose F350 cclb 4x4s a few times a year in my area, I flipped one and made a healthy profit about 3 years ago.

That god awful junkyard empire show was on tv yesterday, so I flipped over to diesel brothers. I tend to enjoy their show, even if it isnt a true tech show.Anyhow, they were redoing a "96" f250 and went to source a cab visor. They had some issues, and finally found one, for 300 BUCKS! They "hard j'd" him down to 200. I couldnt help but laugh as I have two sitting on a shelf. I paid 15 bucks a piece.

JUNKYARDS RULE!

Hoping to get back up there soon, but they haven't gotten anything new and worth a crap lately.
