I know this will be a dumb question, but can someone explain/show me what is meant by 'pivot mount' and where the 8.25 and 7" measurements are? I'm assuming it means the style that has mounting holes that are not straight like the ones I see with holes at 12 and 6 o'clock...

I have a stock 1996 F-150 4x4 XLT with the 4.9l View attachment 179476 . I would like to upgrade my alternator (assuming it's 90 or 95A) to something better 130A+ along with whatever wiring is appropriate for the size I get... What I have is an alternator with mounting holes at like 2 and 5 o'clock (green in picture). When I look up parts, most of what I see are alternators with holes at 12 and 6 o'clock. I cannot find a part that is 130A+ that is oriented like mine. The ones like mine are all 90-95A. What I see on the bracket though is what looks like an unused hole at 12 o'clock, that is tempting me to pursue one of the parts that with holes at 12 and 6 o'clock (blue in picture). Will those parts fit or is this bonus hole just there to taunt me? If anyone can kindly point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it.
Mine is on a 4.9, but the holes at the top of the bracket looks the same as mine and I have the alternator mounted to the hole you have circled with blue. What I would do is measure from that hole to the bottom where yours is mounted and see if a 7" or 8.25" one would work.
You can order a 130 amp at the parts store for your truck. It will be 8.25” between and will fit in the blue hole. The 95a on the 90° mount is the same as the 5.0 TBirds used so I’m sure it’s just a commonality thing.

Few days late to the party...

I too was curious as to get the 6.9 or 8.25" pivot distance. I went to measure on my 85 300 (V-belt!) and well, either would work because the lower bracket also pivots. I decided that the 8.25" measurement would put it a bit too close to the frame. If I ever broke a motor mount, the alt could crash into the frame. So i went with the 6.9 or 7" or whatever it is labeled as.

I went with a 200 amp powermaster 3G. I wanted 2ga for the charge wire, but my local car audio shop only had 1/0 in bulk. So I have that. Which I still had some of the 1/0 welding wire from my starter wire upgrade. However, I like the car audio wire AND terminals better than the welding wire. Terminals were crimpable and smaller. The welding wire is just a touch stiffer, and black. The car audio wire is a bit more flexy and covered in a cool translucent blue insulation.

With 3 junkyard electric fans going, as well as a 500+ watt stereo, it still puts out 14.8v at idle.

Is bronco graveyard the only place to get high output alternators now? Looks like left eye blind is no longer in business. I purchased through there and ordered a 200 amp alternator. For future purposes, I need a better or similar replacement.
I used a 200A PowerMaster from Summit. Came with v-belt and 6 rib serp pulley. No complaints at all.

If I replaced my factory alt with a 130 amp on a 1996 f150, do I still have to upgrade the charge cable?

It is advised to go to 4ga for a 130A, with a 155-165A inline fuse. But thats all you should have to do.

I have a 1990 Ford bronco Eddie Bauer edition with the 5.0 engine from what I read I would have to make some adjustments to fit a 3G alternator? I do have a 2G alternator it's my first time doing any sort of thing like this so I'm just trying to understand a little bit more if I make this upgrade what alternator should I be looking for before I purchase to some you would like putting Legos together but for me it can be a little challenging but I'll figure it out.
Im not the best to answer this but ill give it a go.

First, the 2G Alt is a fire hazard. Its best to get rid of it.

3G Alts can come from mustangs, taurus/sable, and explorers to name a few. If you dont have any big electrical draws, the stock unit from a 95 bronco will suffice. I believe it is 95 Amps. Most folks upgrade to a 130 Amp. This is good if you have a few extra lights and a nice stereo installed. From there, a 200 Amp is next, for lights, stereo, winch, electric fans, etc. For instance, if i have all three electric fans running, they pull about 50 Amps.

I have a 200 Amp Powermaster brand on my 85. Wiring is a bit different for me vs your 90. You should be able to get the Alt harness out of the same vehicle as the Alt and use it. Though most recommend upgrading the charge wire. My charge wire is 2/0 sized and runs through a 225 amp mega fuse.
