Best f250 year for a front axle swap?

05+ is best. But they are wider, so you'll need the rear axle to match. Personally, I stay away from 99-04 superduty stuff.

All ford one ton axles are a metric bolt pattern too, so 97 and previous wheels wont fit. Well, they do, but are really tough to remove after the fact.

05-07 can I believe still run a 16" wheel, but 08+ must run 17" or larger.

F250 and f350 are the same axle wise. As long as it's the same year range. My 08 F350 has the same D60 as a 2010 F250. The radius arm and coil spring setup for the 05+ definitely makes the swap easier. Though the radius arms are freaking massive and kinda ugly.

99-04 arent bad axles, it's just the unit bearings that people dont like to mess with. And the leaf springs.

A d60 from 94-97 has ball joints and is a sought after axle. 85-93 d60 is kingpins and is a highly sought after axle. There were no f350 from 80-84 with a solid front axle. They were all D44HD TTB.

Also, just FYI, ford sells the factory '11+ e-locker for the sterling 10.5. We have a thread on it here, but you can get one shipped to your house for about $600, half of what other selectable lockers go for. It will fit in any sterling 10.25 or 10.5.

People want an arm and a leg for kingpin 60s. BJ 60s from 97 and prior arent much cheaper. I'm currently sitting on a stash of 3 of the BJ60s, one a dually. And 78 5 lug d44. Have less than $800 in all 4.

I passed on a 79 HP D44 HD yestersay in the JY, because it was in a small pond of mud, and the axle tubes looked like toothpicks!
