i posted this at project bronco and would like to see if anyone here as any info as well.my 78 Bronco has #86 on on the door tag for DSO and all the books ive seen dont show #86. anyone know what 86 was? as you can see my bronc has special paint & the bed was customized somewhere other than Ford. Dad bought it new at pat hill ford in middleport, ohio sometime after april 78.She was born in April 78,Dad bought her new from Pat Hill Ford in Middleport,Ohio(i was 7 and thought it was the coolest truck in the world). she spent a couple years with my grandpa then i got her about 14 years ago.i learned to drive in this truck about 18 years ago. planning a total rebuild as money allows .
the door tag has 86 on the DSO as far as i can tell the custom paint and interior work was done somewhere in Indiana.
Something really neat to me is that my best friend is a parts manager at Hills Automotive classic car restoration www.hillsresto.com now but in 1978 he worked at Pat Hill Ford in Middleport,Ohio in the wash bay ,and gave my truck its first bath! we didnt meet until about 15 years ago.

Any vehicle that is modified after it left the factory such as your Bronco, has to be assigned a special code and is normally done by the dealer or the company that does the mods. This has to do with warrenty issues, wiring mod issues, etc. You will see this on vans that are modified these days. Be lucky that you have such a rare Bronco in excellant condition. I like the storage boxes along the sides over the rear fenders. I made something along the same lines for my Bronco, useless space put to use.
