How does the stock FSB do offroad?

I had mine at a local construction site today and was pleasantly surprised. What's the farthest that you have pushed yours before you decided adding mods to it? The Bronco actually did better than my F150.

I have gone lots of places. I do have limited slip and 31s. Usually its the rear bumber or too much mud that stops me. I have pulled some knarly hills and as long as I don't drag, I've been happy. Also removing the front and rear sway bar made a HUGE difference off-road. Gees, I need bigger tires.

These trucks are terrible off-road. Who would ever do such a thing, anyway???

Oh wait, this isn't the Jeep forum. :toothless

mine is a decent hunting rig which when i hunt i play for the first 3 day of the hunt then go hunting stock size but 31s for tire just remeber that your not a Big one so when you see your buddies in jack up powerstrokes crossing a lake bed and getting stuck dont follow or do and have to get pulled out by a Cat

I tackled Uhwarrie ORV with my stock Bronco on 31s...or maybe 33s...I forget. Either way, I drove thru everything I could find. It was dry so there was plenty of traction. If it was wet, it woulda been alot harder.

too many people put too much emphasis on the vehicle in stock form. if you ask me if two vehicles are even remotly on the dame page, even a jeep to a bronco, if they are stock, the tires are what will make a difference. a good mud tire will out perform a larger street tire on a vehicle with more clearence anyday of the week.

for example, we were out in my old roomates 78, it was lifted but he only had like 31's on it at the time, my buddy in his cherokee was there as well, with a slightly more aggressive 30's. we were just screwin around in the woods, more or les doing some scouting. all day long the jeep got around better than the bronco, and the bronco ended with a blown rear joint, and the jeep couldn't get him out. so we went home to get my bronc, i had 32" TSLs and i hardly even spun a tire on the way in, and very little on the way out, and i had a strap hooked to him. the swampers, while sure were a touch bigger, but not much, they had such far superior traction, thats where the difference was, not in vehicle design.

remember no matter how good your vehicle is for wheeling, traction is still the number 1 necesity, and that is all about the tires

I am still amazed at what we did at wheelin' (witc) during the rits '05, with it being stock, and on cooper discoverer a/t p265/70-15.....i did get a lil tweak on my rear bumper on the passenger side, a small dent in bodywork in front of the passenger rear tire (actually a small push-up on the bottom of the panel - so slight that i just noticed it a couple of months ago), and some minor custom pinstriping.

would i do it again, you bet, but i do wanna do some stuff before i another adventure.

I have had a lot of fun with mine in 100% stock form, and the only things that held me back were the boat anchors on the ends of the rear bumper, and once or twice a little lack of traction.

Now with 32 M/T's, I have not been stopped yet on anything I've tried, and we have climbed a lot of mountains. I know the limits of clearance though, so I don't TRY to break/stick it.

A friend of mine got stuck at four in the morning in what appeared to be a little wet grass. I live by the meadowlands in New Jersey, so that means that the grass only conceals the swamp underneath. He was so stuck that the mud came up almost completely past the bumper. To be fair though his trucks electronic transfer case was not working so he was in 2HI the whole time. After pulling him out I took my truck through in 4HI and kept the rpms at about 3000 the whole time, I cut a nice couple of ruts about 100 yards long. By the way my truck is really close to stock, just a couple of little things for some power.:rockon

i took mine thru a marsh that my buddy with a 6 inch lift went thru, it looked a lot deeper than it was but it covered the tires alright, i never got stuck, and i was in 2 wheel most of the time, but it did fine, the only thing id worry about is the gas tank, and tail pipe, my friend put a hole in his tank before he got his lift and i riped my tail pipe right off. but as far as gettin u thru, its a bronco.

Stock broncos do a great job mainly because of their wheelbase and track width. The short(er) wheelbase give's you better break-overs and the fullsize track width gives you a ton better sidehill stability. That being said, the right tires will take a stocker a lot further and even an LS or lunchbox locker in the back will do amazing things.
