Power rear window

I have a weird one
The rear window works intermittently
Sometimes there is no problem
The safety switch for tail gate position has been bypassed long ago

it can be either all the way down or all the way up
When I try from the dash switch it either won’t go down or go up.
but from the key at the gate it works fine
The catch is it does the opposite too
Sometimes or half the time I get no movement from the key in the gate
But it works from the dash
The problem goes back and fourth

if it’s not working at the dash it instantly works without hesitation at the tail gate key

if it’s not working at the tail gate it works instantly at dash without hesitation
WTF?

Sounds like a ground issue - look at a wiring diagram and do some testing, may have to have someone shake the harness when you are testing.

Well I waited until the window quit operating all together.
Started trouble shooting by checking for power at the windows electric motor when switch is operated
Had 12 volts in one direction and -12 volts the other
it was a bad motor the whole time working intermittently. I didn’t know that they could fail that way. Apparently sometimes it’s better to let a problem fully develop before chasing your tail!!!
Any case I’m happy. Happen to have a spare motor from the 78 because I put a soft top on it couple years ago
