I bought a RedHead steering box for my 1995 Bronco. It was $260 free shipping, including the 10% discount. I received it, it looked great. I put it on- WHAT A PIECE OF CRAP. It has at least 25 degrees of play in the steering, the steering wheel at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock straight across, it's contantly going to 8 o'clock and 2 o'clock. It's all over the road. It's not even as good as the rebuilt Advance Auto steering box I bought 4 years ago for half the price. I'm surely not sending them that one as a core, I'll get a refund first. I called RedHead spoke to 2 reps, both rambled on about torque spec of the pitman arm. The first guy actually said he has other customers to take care of, after 25 minutes, well I spent $260 for the box, and $175 for the core. I'm out $435 plus tax and I have to send it back. When I asked who rebuilt the box, they answered the guys in the back. I said did you actually see the guys set it up ? No. The reps on the phone have a line about pitman arms torque spec. Well the pitman arm is on there good, if I torqued it any more, it would strip the threads. It's a pressed tapered stud. The problem is there is a ton of play in it. It acts like a worn out steering box. I've been a mechanic 40 years and this steering box acts is almost as bad as the original one we took off the truck that was 25 years old. It appears that RedHead employees are just painting steering boxes and reselling them, and seeing how much money they can make, and who calls back, and takes them up on the warranty. I only drove it 2 MILES, and parked it. They're giving a song and a dance about warranty. Their steering boxes are obviously, blatantly, set up TOO LOOSE.
