Tailgate Moisture Barrier

Mine is missing in the 1990. I found one other thread about it, but I decided I would post another one to see if anyone has came up with more ideas on what to make the moisture barrier out of.

I'm thinking about using heavy plastic like Steve suggested, but can't think of which kind of plastic he was talking about and I wondered If the plastic would "sweat" and cause drips on the inspection plate side.

Edit- I cut a shower curtain and RTVed it into place. You cannot see it behind the inspection plate. So far so good, 6 months later

I used a heavy garbage bag and silicon it in place.

I've got the same problem. thought about getting one of thos large heavy duty leaf bags and cutting it to fit and then put some kind of adhesive on it. That seems to be about what the original was like.

I need to do this as well, but was thinking roofing felt AKA tar paper as it breathes just the littlest bit and is a good sound deadener. Any reason I shouldn't do that?

I think they are just like a paper grocery bag. I cut one up, put it together with duct tape and put it on. It seems to work just fine.

I find that a good quality building tar paper works well. I think that it will breath a bit better than plastic, the tar will also help it stick (along with a little adhesive used to install it) and it won't saturate with water (like paper would).

Why do we want it too breath??

tyvek house wrap. it breathes one way, is cheap..if you buy a tyvek paint suit, and is readily avaliable. id also use double sided tape so the next time you gotta get in there you can take it off and not have to clean off silicone

Otherwise what about some wax paper, like what you wrap your steaks in to store in the freezer?
