3rd brake light options???

Howdy folks -

I'm my quest to make the exterior of the Bronco look new again (dropped it off at the paint shop today!!!!), I'm now to the third brake light. After ordering what I thought was a replacement, I realized that no one makes the stock one anymore and the only options are LED. I'm not a fan of the ones I've seen so far, but since it's my only option, it is what it is.

What are y'all running out there? Are there any that retain the factory look (colored lenses)?

If I have LED taillights (I'll post some pics of those shortly, they are SWEET), do I need to wire in diodes when I switch the third brake light to LED?

I'll post a full refurbishing thread shortly.... I'm getting the truck painted two tone (keeping original paint on top and bottom and having the 90's era stripe painted down the side) and replacing all of the trim, emblems, etc. Finding all of the right parts have been more of a PITA than I was expecting (and more expensive as well!). Hopefully it'll be all worth it in the end!

The third brake light can be swapped over to led without having to wire in a resistor. If the led tail lights already have the resistors wired in them then no you wont need to do anything else. if your using led tail light bulbs in a standard housing then you will have to wire in resistors in each side.

Heres the led third brake light i installed, of course i swapped mine from cargo/brake light to brake light only. Also keep in mind, i havent found a aftermarket third brake light that i didnt need to trim some on the back so it would fit flush in the top

The screw circled in red will need to be removed and the plastic will need to be ground down flush on both sides, i believe these were used during the manufacturing process to hold the lens on the housing until the sealant cures. I removed the screws and trimmed the nubs down flush and noticed no issue with with the lens coming loose, wont matter much anyway as the fastening screws go through the lens and housing and into the retainers in the top.

I opted for the black housing smoked lens to match my smoked tail lights, i also have led bulbs all the around on my bronco

Did you have any issues with the 3rd brake light ? Some guys on my Instagram just told me it could mess with my torque converter. Then said it may not due to the bronco having a removable top... Instagram- @broncnut

I had polished mine back up on the lens, cleaned the inside, put some foil tape inside (PITA to get it decently in there) for reflecting light closer to how it should, and taped off and repainted (since I had a hard on for the Rustoleum Rubbed Bronze at the time). I do plan on messing around with my 3D printer and trying to design one to use 3/4" LEDs to give it a Raptor style look at night.
