my friend has an 89 f150 with 4.9 and one of the injectors are leaking bad. wever already replaced 1 and put new seals on all the others and taken the intake off twice before to do that. he was about to cry when we saw another injector leaking. it would have mist coming from the intake after turning the motor off so i htink theres a crack in the injector. ive been tellnig him he really needs to fix it but hes demotivated.

anwyays ive jsut had it pop into my head that instead of dealing with these injectors, why not upgrade to some ev6 injectors. ive seen a few threads about mustang guys doing it with good results. jsut have a few questions.

do i have to do anything to the fuel rail to make them fit? other than the connector adapters is there anythnig else i need to do? would i use 19lb injectors or something else? anybody have any hard evidence that they are worth going to? would it be worth getting junkyard injectors for almost free vs new?

get JY injectors from another 300 and to about your day. the 300 uses a different injector from the V8s. IIRC it's 17lb.

apparently its only 12. but i read that swappingto 19 can really help but you have to lower the pressure. he wouldnt want to do al lkthat work. maby i can find 12lb ev6 injectors

well its the fact that ev1 (stock style) injectors dont work near as effectivly as the ev6 style used in later model vehicles. upgrading to ev6 injectors is suppose to help fuel effecency, make the engine run better, and is overal a better injector with better spray pattern. i would stay with the same flow rate of 12lb but thats would be if they made them. i cant even see where they made 12lb ev1 injectors yet alone ev6 12lb. to keep the fuel flow the same with 19lb injectors i would have to lower the fuel pressure

Not lower the pressure, you'd need to tune the EEC to shorten the injector pulse width.

I don't think the 300 had 12lbs. i think it was 17.

ive googled it many times now. i keep hearing different numbers. 12 seems to come up the most but i also see 15 and 17. all i know is that the fuel pressure is is suppsoe to be like 45-60 psi where v8 use only 35-45. i would think that 12# would sound more correct. cant say for certian. im curious of 19# injectors with the v8s 30-45 psi of fuel would even it out

don't start your floridian hacking shit. If it's going to get that complicated grab some damn JY injectors, clean/rebuild them and put 'em in.

I really don't understand what your friends crying about with pulling the intake. All the upper plenum bolts can be reached with a 1/4'' air ratchet, 3 inch extension and short or deepwell 5/16'' (i think). Don't even have to pull the throttle cables, just sit the plenum off to the side. Seriously it's a 5 minute friggin' job.

5 minute job my ass. took us a day to do it twice (first time to replace seals, second to replace an injector) and that was not fun in any way. plus it burned up all his money and he couldnt afford a new injector.

adjsuting fuel pressure isnt so complicated. race guys do it al lthe time. jsut get an adjsutable pressure regulator and a guage to read pressure. seems like pretty simple math to figuer out a base pressure. then computer will adjsut as long as its close. i think it would be an intresting mod especially if it adds power and fuel effeceny. i like doing stuff thats different

No the EEC will NOT adjust it. The eec cannot adjust for different sized injectors. Adjusting the FP down isn't going to do shit. Sure, "race guys" do it because they are USING it for that specific application. If you try to fool the EEC you're going to come on the losing end of it. "modding" it by tossing bigger injectors in it and then trying to dumb down the pressure or tune it to larger injectors with STOCK breathing capabilities will accomplish.....what? That bigger injectors are tuned down to run a stock engine? That won't do shit.

If it took you all day to pull the UPPER PLENUM of a 300 twice you should have all your tools melted down for scrap. It's 8 bolts, and a few vacuum lines. Seriously.

the eec will adjsut the fuel trim some from the o2 sensor readings as lnog as its not rediculously high or low mixture. you jsut have to adjsut the pressure lower to compinsate for the bigger injector.

the idea is to not run more fuel, its to run the same amount of fuel more effecienly. this is why if i cound the same size ev6 injector would be the best choice.

it took my a day to remove the intake, test the injectors, put new seals on them, do valve cover gaskets, remove the injector cooler, plug egr holes and eliminate the system that was fawked beyond repair, remove some other smog stuff, replace alot of broken vacuum lines, put intake back on, test and inspect, take intake back off, replace a leaking injector, put back together, test again to see another leaking. plus numerous trips to part store and alot of cleaning. its not that it took that long to take it off its that its took half a day to do the job each time. its far from a 5 minute job. and taking the botls out on his truck is far from that quick. you cant even get a socket on the furthest 2 bolts without a long ass extension, a swivel and somebody on the top to guide it

You should come work on jets for a few weeks. The places that you have to fit tools is insane. A lot of the pieces and parts that we have to change out to keep them flying were never meant to be changed without MAJOR disassembly of nearby systems.
Try getting to some of these lines.
