Trying to drop fuel tank. Got the 8 bolts off skid plate but the hitch goes directly under the tank. Searched fuel tank removal and read many post but haven't seen one handing the hitch.
I think you're going to have to cut that hitch off. I just went through the process to replace my tank. My hitch wasn't really in the way but I removed it anyway to restore it. I'd suggest you put some bolts back in that skid plate before cut the hitch off. You wouldn't want that tank dropping out aggressively. You might find that tank is wedged in there tightly and may be hard to get it to drop. Regardless, use a jack or something to support it. Be sure to disconnect the sending unit cable before letting it drop out too far. I've attached a few pics of my effort.
Good Luck.

I used POR-15 products. Three steps. Their cleaning solution first to remove dirt, grease/oil etc. Then a rust preventative treatment that applies a zinc coating, then the POR-15 black. That paint is amazing. Then I sprayed a Rustoleum undercoating product just on the outside of the skid plate. Did same process to my trailer hitch (except no undercoating). I like how your skid plate has those six rear facing drain slots. Mine just has the one drain hole in the center. What paint did you use? I am using RustProof M/D- tank turned out really well. The skid plate is ok, but nowhere near as pretty as yours.
