Hey guys,

So I'm puttin down the road and my check engine light comes on.
I just happen to be rollin by Auto Zone and didn't need to be anywhere in a hurry so I grabbed the Scan tool from auto zone, plugged it in under the dash, turned the ignition in the KOEO position, and nothing...

Tried it many times, tried starting the truck, tried accessories posistion (out of flustration) and the tool was just not working. (nothing displayed, wasn't on)

I went inside and asked for another scan tool and she said that they only have 1, and that about 4 other people used it that day. She said "maybe you have a fuse out or something"

So I go home and try to find the culprit but all fuses are fine.

Whats my next step?

I know the 5.0 mustangs were not OBDII ever, even though the v6 in 94-95 was, and all 94-95 mustangs had a OBDII port (non-functioning), and the v8 OBDII started with the 4.6. Now in 96 it should be OBDII but being a pushrod v8 still it may have been OBDI, look for a OBDI port under your hood. Just an idea....

Tried that already, got under the hood and looked for the OBD-1 connector like on my 92, and there wasn't one there. Its definetly OBD-II

Anyone else have an opinion?

IIRC when mind did the same thing it was the fuese for the ashtray light, or the cig. lighter. It appeared to be totally unrelated but changed that one and it worked...

Are you serious? thats wierd, too bad all my fuses are good. Now would be a good time to double check.

You guys are genious's, that was it.
What was Ford thinking, who would think to replace the cigar lighter fuse if the OBD port wasn't working?

Anyways thanks again, looks like I need a new o2 sensor (bank 1, sensor 2)

NO! :twak

Just because you see a part mentioned in a code definition, that's no reason to start replacing anything. Your HEGO is probably working PERFECTLY, and reporting that there's a problem at that location. Replacing a good HEGO won't fix a cracked exhaust pipe, vacuum leak, shattered cat, leaking FPR, or broken wire. See WHY the sensor is throwing that code before you put a new one in.

BTW Why does your profile say you have a '92, but your sig says '96???

He used to have a '92, too, but sold it after the got the '72. Too damn lazy to change it.
Ya sorry Clarko is right, I'll change it, just lazy.

Thanks Steve, good point, I'll pull that bad boy out and test it before I replace it.
