sounds like the pump is dying.you may could get by with just replacing that......still have to pull the trans tho.:banghead

 

Even though it was just rebuilt and the fluid is still new smelling?

 

Got the same problem with mine that was rebuilt about 6 months ago.

 

I'd be talking to whoever did the re-build.

 

The man who rebuilt it just passed away earlier this year .:banghead but it is my friend who owned the truck at the time and I know how cheap he is and most likely he didn't replace the pump, just the seal around it. but the thing shifts just finem it's just when I put it into drive, like I said reverse is fine.

 

I'd say its the pump, too. Its not giving the trans enough pressure to shift into drive. I have a f150 that is doing the same thing. I'm just too lazy to pull the tranny....

 

mine does the same exact thing...70k original miles no know tranny rebuild

 

mine does the same thing but only when its cold, i let it warm up it doesn't do it.

 

Mine doesn't matter warm or cold, it just takes a few seconds to engage once I shift it into drive.

 

You probably wouldn't notice any problem with it shifting while driving because the pump is up spinning at a higher rpm. It takes longer to engage in Drive because the engine is just idling when you put it in gear, so the pump isn't spinning very fast. The tranny will behave much the same way if it gets low on fluid. had that problem before. I'd say it's probably the pump.
