just curious. aside from money issues making me wait on this or that, how do you get your ass in gear to do stuff to your truck? i have a D60 front axle in the back of my parts p/u that i have had for a few years. aside from steering rods, all i gotta do is put it under my bronco. once in a while i get a creative urge to do stuff like rock lights, a tach, extending my breather lines... you know, little stuff. i have an MSD on my shelf that needs installed too. i gotta gather parts for hydro assist. i love my bronco, i just gotta get out there and do a few things so i can wheel that bastard. do you guys wrench yourselves or do you take them to a shop?

what do you do to get motivated?

I hear ya bro...I have the same problem. Especially now that is so freaking hot out there. I have an OBA setup just waiting to go on, I recently picked up a new Millermatic 210 welder that I've hardly used yet, a brand new 8500lb winch (gotta build the mount), I need to plate my radius arms, install new longer shock towers in the front...etc. What makes it especially hard for me is that I live in AZ but work in Cali 5 days a week (usually 14-16 hour days) then on the weekends I'm so burnt out I don't want to do $hit.

Sorry but my answer doesn't help except to point out that your not the only one with that problem. :shrug

When i do something to my bronco, its usually pretty drastic, so i have the HoneyMoon period all over again. Just driving it around and getting the "ohhhhhhs and ahhhhhhhs" and thumbsup from people in parking lots gets my motivated. And I ABSOLUTELY love the complete sight of FEAR in the eyes of the little honda RICER people when i pull up behind them, then the move up a little, then i follow, then they move up and can't move up anymore, then i inch up RIGHT ON THEIR ASS". Its small stuff like that that really gets me motivated. I also have A.D.D., so either i am Completely focused on something until its done, or i will sit there and watch ants crawl around on the ground for like 2 hours. :slap :thumbup

:histerica :histerica :histerica

It usually gets the best of me when a bunch of my friends come over with their trucks covered in mud and they say "man you should have been there" Yeah, that one works every time :banghead . Instant motivation.

Eric your still comuting to San Jose?

I just do it. I love to go wheel the bronco and if there is something that needs to be done I put it all on a list of paper. I do the most important ones then go from there. if you do the list thing it does not look so bad once you start crossing things off of it.

You must turn off THE BOX

you know what I mean

that's what I have to do

Aside from not having any $$$$ now that my little buddy is here. Which I am not complaining one bit. But when I can get some extra $$$ I try to get parts I want or need. As soon as I walk in the garage, see that beast sitting there looking kind of down because now I drive the Honda around town and back and forth to work to save on gas. My blood and adrenaline automatically starts pump'n and I get a big grin on my face cause I have a kick'n rig that I want to be more bad everytime I take it out, I get right to work!

I am like Ax, and Jopes.
Some days I have no energy or motivation to do anything, but in order for me to not forget what needs to be done, I make a list. And just like the sheep man said, its a nice feel when the stuff gets crossed off the list.

My list is sorta long:
Sipe last 2 tires.

Install gauges & A-Pillar pod.

Trim front fenders and sliders, then clean up and paint sliders.

Install Power Steering Cooler.

Trim engine cross member to clear differential housing.

Fix steering stops.

Install Tranni cooler.

Replace hub housing on Drivers side.
Grease wheel bearings
Silicone the hub cap

Waterproof everything under hood: Fuse boxes, Cap, Fill in all holes in wheel wells with silicone.

High-pressure wash under-body.
Under coat the under-body with multiple coats.

Repaint the shell, hood, & trim “Hammerite Black”.

That about it except for a few small things. In fact Garth and I are working on some of these things this week.
Today we are going to do the guages, and maybe if the heat doest kill us, we will get some other crap done.

It gets worse when you have like 4 different project vehicles waiting to be worked on. :banghead

My Heep is pretty well done for now, although there are things that I want to do with it. It's a good wheeler, though, so all it needs is maintenance, which I do fairly regularly. :) But then...

Well, first there's the Bronco. When I got it I had to do all the maintenance that the DSPO didn't do - fix the windows, fix the driveshaft, fix the rear gears, etc... And now I'm starting the builld-up. I have a d44 HD sitting on the floor just waiting to be rebuilt. Then I need to regear the rear, etc...It's my DD, though, so it's hard to take it down for any period of time. :banghead Well, at least until I get to my next project...

...The BMW. I have this sweet little '87 325i Convertible sitting in the garage. All it needs is a clutch, and it's ready to drive. Sure. Piece of cake. But there it sits (and has sat for the last 6 months...). I have this day job, see, and on the weekends I want to either be wheeling or be working on the wheelers... :beer

Then there's the Caddy. I have a '71 Sedan Deville that I inherited from a great aunt about 2 years ago. It had been sitting for about 10 years with a bad tranny. I rebuilt it, got the engine running again, and it's a sweet drive, but it needs little things to make it streetable...it has a bad ball joint in the front, and the frame needs to be stripped and POR 15'd, and the body panels need a lot of work because it was a New York car and so has a lot of rot. I have grand plans for this car, but I hardly ever have time to think about them. The car runs beautifully, too. Starts within the first 2 or 3 seconds every time, even if it's been sitting for weeks. I really should start doing something with this car. The wife wants it gone if it's just going to sit...:wacko

I had to let go of one of my projects. I had a '69 Chevy C/10 longbed that I was going to build into a hot rod pickup, but I just never had the time. I finally sold it and got the Bronco instead. A good move, if I do say so. :chili:

So, I feel your pain. Motivation is HARD. Sometimes I just have to force myself to dive in and start.

ok ...
1.list
2.bribe
3.just do it
4.hey look at that spider building his web. thats cool. hmmm i wonder if ...
5.stay focused!

i dont have cable so its not the box. i dont have a woman, so its not that box either. i just got a 4 banger but i havent tagged it yet. once i do i will be able to tear down for more than oneday or weekend projects. hard part is not having a level spot to do stuff. level and concrete would be even better, but level is a good start. so i am not the only one, thats good to know. i have come pretty far, so its not like im talking about a stock rig. i have gauges still to go in, MSD as well. gotta get a new p/s box and have it ported or do it myself. i wish there were more people closer to me like you west coast guys. we could have wrench parties, work on each others rigs, make it go faster. its always something, but i love my Bronco and my dogs do too, so i will just keep plugging along. thanks guys.

I had to let go of one of my projects. She kept nagging about all my project vehicles so I told her to hit the road.
That's better

hahahaha.

Seriously, my wife rocks. How many of you have woken up on a Saturday morning to your wife packing you a cooler, handing you your keys and saying, "Why don't you go wheeling today? I'll stay home with the baby. Have fun!" and sends you out the door? She just gets a little annoyed at all the cars. As long as I park them at the shop she doesn't seem to mind as much. On the up-side, she said if we get some land I can have as many as I want...Arizona is calling me....

Well...............when the gf isn't helping me put up the shop, helping me wire the shop, helping me build the truck, grinding on D60s for SAS's, laying concrete, or fishing out broken axleshafts on the trail, she'd never let me go 'wheeling without her.

my gf is abotu the same. she helps me work on the bronco. helped me tear apart a double beadlock and try to fix it on the con this weekend. She helped me do alot of the build up this spring with the bronco. She is also sooo looking forward to ripping all these double beadlocks apart and mounting up some new tires.

The only way I can get motivated is if the family leaves me alone. I am one of those wifes that has a husband that hates home/vehicle maintenance and only wants to play motorcycle. :twak I love to send him off with his other motorcycle friends so I can work on the truck, bronco, house, garden, shop, etc. :thumbup

I've built concrete walls, insulated and paneled my entire workshop, torn out cupboards and repainted the entire kitchen, textured the entire livingroom and hall and painted, built fences, gardens, hauled gravel for driveway and spread it, put in water systems ALL BY MYSELF while he was gone for the weekend. It is kinda like the TV show "While you were out". :rockon

I love those things and then when that is done, the next weekend is free for us all to go play, either camping, fishing, hiking, motorcycling, 4x4ing, etc. :chili: :chili: :clap
